Can someone tell me if TOT use regular 2 core RJ11 wiring or Coaxial cable for "the last mile" when they install FTTH. I'd like to know because the coax is a million times better as it doesn't lose data like the copper 2 core wire. Cheers.

I doubt they do coax.

Its either cat5/cat6 or fiber cable -> fiber to ethernet convertor device -> router.

Cheers. If they use a fiber to ethernet device I presume they aren't using the standard copper 2 core wire... thank god.

To my home its a few hundred meters of fibre optic cable.

This one (I posted this in another thread):

The datasheet:

Yup ^^^.

We have fibre right to my desk where the router sits smile.png

and in another thread a poster sugested we are members of the chosen people laugh.png

The Chosen are well spread. I'm in Pathum Thani, you're in Pattaya area and JAS21 (who also has fibre to his router) is near BKK immigration.

FTTH=fibre to home make sure its what you ordered then ok i can only suggest to avoid ( lost in translation ) situations double check your order specs before you part with dosh

Interesting, I had previously assumed it's just fibre to the last mile and then the same old pair of copper wires into the phone socket.

I'll be looking to upgrade if it's available in my area.

And this is ours (I cleaned off most of the gekko droppings):-

Black twin fibre comes into the box with the laser symbol where some magic occurs and the yellow single fibre emerges to the router.

I wish I had that ONU/ONT (fiber to Ethernet uplink) unit.

Then you can use whatever router you want.

My 3BB FTTH terminates directly into a Huawei fiber/4-port/WiFi router.

BTW, it's always better to mount these devices with the connections pointing down - rather than up.

Optical illusion, ours is flat on a desk :)

Agree ^^^, keeps the muck out.

three DSL modem/routers connections down, one fibre flat on desk.

Its in an open sala but would still get extra temp radiate from roof, will check in the hot season.

Just look for the pool of melted plastic on the floor.

Maybe just place it a bit lower, rather than adjacent to the roof? And think about a fan.

Its been there over 2 years already with no problems but will get a bit of insulation for above it.

Its up high to keep children away from it

scary when i think what max temperatures your gadgets are exposed to ohmy.png

My i5 3870 k would max out at 103 celsius if I was encoding video, (and not crash LOL). My new i7 5820k won't go past 47 degrees. Water cooling my friend. 6 cores, 12 virtual with hyperthreading... it's a beast.

It really seems to be the luck of the draw guys

I have fibre into the living room in a sparsely populated home on the outskirts of bkk but in a condo right beside victory monument I can't get it even though thst is a hyper densely populated area compared to the others that can get it...

Roll out seems illogical in terms of max subscriptions per metre of cable etc but I've long give up even asking why our what's the reason why in Thailand...

my fibre modem/router says max temp 70ºC. FarmerJoe's picture shows his gear exposed to temperatures which may easily exceed 70º considering that especially the router generates its own heat, e.g. all my modems are at 40-45ºC warm and that in my study that is 24/7 airconditioned at 25.5º.

note: we are not talking PCs or do you think the picture shows a roof-mounted PC? tongue.png

I must be one of the great unwashed as the nearest TOT fibre cable to me stops 6 km away. Then it goes into a microwave link and from there to a tower where I get TOT WiNet. They have promised that it WILL be a fibre cable to my house in 2017 Thai time.

However I do live in rural Thailand.

TOT Fiber2U deployment strategy is a mystery to me. I own condo's on Sukhumvit in Tong Lor...you guessed it, no fiber2U, in fact TOT only just, within the last couple of weeks, upgraded to VDSL from ADSL, which at least is fiber to the cabinet.

I live in Isaan in a Backofbeyond village, yep Fiber2U. In point of fact when TOT came knocking on the door saying that they were deploying fiber and would I like to upgrade from my DSL, shock doesn't even come close to my reaction.

In answer to the original OP question. As with others I have the thick black optical cable that runs into the house, then they splice in the previously mentioned yellow fiber which connects direct to the Fiberhome modem

Yeah LOL... I was referring to the heat in general. I have 3 servers (all i5's) running different things (media, CCTV, Radiusdesk hotspot), and they are all in a non AC environment. I wish they weren't, but they are! Whereas my personal machine (the beast, an i7) runs cools as ice regardless. Anyway back on topic, that little yellow wire to the fiber/ethernet device must be duplex mustn't it? Do they use a splitter or anything like that that you know of?
