BANGKOK — A top official has refuted a viral social media post which claimed she said “only rubber bullets were used” by security forces during the 2010 military crackdown that left more than 90 people dead.

Suwana Suwanchutha, director of the Division of Special Investigation, said she never made a remark that has been widely shared by Redshirt supporters on social media in recent weeks.

“I have never said anything about that issue, because it concerns legal cases,” Suwanna said yesterday. “I would never have spoke about it.”

Suwanna, whose agency has been tasked with identifying perpetrators behind the killings in 2010, said she recalled giving interviews to the media recently, but she has never mentioned anything about the rubber bullets.

The false statement appears to be stemmed from a report first published by ASTV Manager news site on 29 July.

oh dear, another defamation case about to proceed perhaps?

Priorities indeed!!

Original source alleged to be ASTV Manager -- enough said

if she gave interviews then they should have her statements on tape, if not then they are probably making it up as they do with many stories if they think it will give them better circulation. The reds dont care if it is the truth or not as long as they can gain political mileage from it, if it can not be proven to have been said then it needs to be removed and apologies extended but I doubt this will happen. What this country needs is the truth to come out, not all the innuendo and crap to stir up trouble as we have now, the truth will remove a lot of the current ammunition being used to cause problems and allow people to finally see what really did happen.

This has been started off by the Shin supporters sharing what may or may not be true on social media.

Sating someone said something, knowing it to be a lie, to discredit them, to gain politically, and to stir up trouble is wrong and those responsible should be punished in accordance with the law when convicted.

The Shin side might be looking to discredit this lady and therefore by implication the work of her department, the DSI in public opinion. Maybe they don't like some of the current investigations.

This should be provable one way or another.
