PM says Thaksin's police rank case is now over

8-12-2015-4-53-33-PM-wpcf_728x413.jpg

BANGKOK: -- Fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra’s police lieutenant colonel rank issue was over after it was ruled Tuesday by a special panel that he could be stripped of his police rank, said Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha on Wednesday.

“ My duty is to submit the case for Royal approval. For the time being, I am just waiting,” said the prime minister.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Visanu Kruea-ngam said Thaksin could sue the Royal National Police Office for stripping him of the police rank but could not take legal action against the Council of State because the council merely gave legal advice to the government.

Maj-Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd, deputy government spokesman, insisted that the government had strictly abided by the law in considering Thaksin’s police rank case.

Pol Lt-Gen Prawuth Thavornsiri, the assistant national police chief and spokesman of the RNPO, said the police office would have to check with the human resources department first about how to move next as the case was unprecedented.

Yes, let's now refer the case to the low ranking civil servants in the human resources dept...I'm sure those folks will quickly determine the next step to take in this high profile case.

Besides, what may be unprecedented is any police officer every being stripped of rank.

Good plan, as long as it includes mandatory attendance by the complainant when the suit is filed. That will be the end of that, the coward won't show.

How many more crooks are running around the country/world touting a police ranking as testimate to their good will, honesty and good citizenship. To clean the whole mess up you have to start somewhere and set a precident, this is as good as any place to start, just keep on going and clean up the mess that has been allowed to grow to numbers way out of porportation and intent.

Oh thank god. Now can he focus on the very more pressing issues at hand and stop boring us with this token, distraction causing nonsense.

Look at the picture of the P.M. This is a man that wants his people to be happy but cannot find inner happiness as long as pressing issues like Thaksin's rank, stripping thereof, need to be sorted.

Now that it is out of the way perhaps he can get a good night's sleep.

"have to check with the human resources department first about how to move next as the case was unprecedented"

I guess Thakin was the first and till now only former police officer who became a criminal fugitive, or was he just the first to cling to the rank?

Even his son said something anout "just remove his rank." It carries no weight at all.

Having said that, let's just see how long it takes to remove his rank.

The case is not over. I am pretty sure of that.

Does that mean he has to turn his gun in to?

Seems Thais are strangely obsessed with rank. Who cares what F#$%ing police rank he has, he has not been a Police for ages. The last thing on T's mind now me thinks would be that stupid rank.

When is the next coup gonna be?

Who in this world cares? This man will never be allowed to step back into Thailand so what is the point?

What is different now. Thailand's national security is more secure?

What a colossal waste of time, energy, and money.

PM: Revocation of former PM Thaksin's police rank receives green light

BANGKOK, 13 August 2015, (NNT) - Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha has indicated that the Ministry of Justice has decided to revoke the Police Lieutenant Colonel rank held by ex-Premier Thaksin Shinawatra, deeming that Mr. Thaksin had violated the 2004 Royal Thai Police's revocation bill.

He stated the Royal Thai Police would soon forward the revocation proposal to the Royal Household for approval, in order to officially strip Mr. Thaksin of his police rank.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan stressed that the process is being done in accordance with the rule of law. He added that the move wasn't aimed at bullying the former Prime Minister or creating conflict in society.

Deputy Prime Minister Wisanu Krue-Ngam pointed out that Mr. Thaksin couldn't take legal action against the Council of State for giving advice to the government about his rank revocation, as the council is not the one executing the order.

His passports have already been revoked !! Have you been asleep in recent months?

Which one? The one from Montenegro or the one from Uganda?

We don't know, but he's probably still got his diplomatic passport from Nicaragua. If you or I had multiple passports we could get in serious trouble at a border crossing. But for a very rich Thai meglamaniac, no problem.

The case isn't over at all and for all the bluff and bs, he was awarded his rank by royal decree and nothing but a royal decree will remove it.

It isn't much use to him really is it, on the run for nearly 10 years.

What a waste of effort.

How has he kept it for so long...

Because there are laws protecting rank and privilege for officers of the government. This goes back to (a) the absolute monarchy, when all government officials were appointed servants of the King, and (b\) the revolution to establish a constitutional monarchy, because some of the revolutionists were government officials who worried about their honors, privileges, and pensions. Interestingly, the French have similar laws because they have had so many revolutions since 1789. This led to some negotiations during World War II prior to the invasion of North Aftica (held by the Vichy French government at the time) which seem bizarre th Anglo-Saxons. French military officers in North Africa were concerned about how surrendering would affect their time in service and their pensions.
