I subscribe to 3BB plan - B900+VAT.

The package offers -

Upload - 15

Download - 1

I did the speedtest & the following results were displayed -

Upload - 14.92

Download - 1.04

I am happy with that outcome.

What would one need for VERY EFFICIENT internet results? ie is my package quite sufficient for my requirements?

I think you might have your ups & downs mixed up a bit.

As you are paying 900+ baht/month for this package, you should have less users on the node, so for what you are using it for, it should be fine as is.

Much more than you actually require - all are low usage activities unless you start watching video on-line - and you have enough speed for that (although it likely varies greatly by time of day - or will when new customers arrive). What you need to do is get a speed test to the USA or other server outside of Thailand if you have not done so. That will be much more accurate. Even Thai Visa is from servers outside Thailand.

Yes guys, my info re Ul/DL are in reverse order.

More importantly, the speeds for Ul/DL are adequately sufficient?

It seems that the speeds are quite adequate for my requirements.

That was the thrust of my question.

Faster Speed is only one factor.

Yes, we can request more bandwidth/faster speed, but that can be futile if the server is busy.

You might better trace a path and find how many servers you pass through to get to your webpage.

Also, for those downloading videos/programs from torrents...you might get throttled down by your ISP.

One other thing....your wireless card has a cap on it as well. If you use LAN instead of wireless, you could then take advantage of higher speed (from you to your ISP).

Are others sharing wireless in your home? Then it gets worse. Definitely use LAN.

Another factor is RAM (on older computers..or cheaper models). I load many tabs simultaneously. Watch your memory max out...if you don't have enough RAM.

I operate fast (Load the next tab while reading the current one). Technique is free... Loading mail or forums ...just to read the message...does not require higher bandwidth. The difference is only a few seconds. Just multitask.

Your speed plan is fine. In fact you could probably upgrade again to say a 30Mb plan (just for example) and not notice one bit of difference in internet surfing performance, emailing, etc., compared to your current 15Mb plan. If you are into torrents/downloading files, then a higher speed plan would speed that process up some.

And regarding surfing "international" websites like in the U.S, Europe since Thai ISPs pretty much throttle their international bandwidth/just don't buy enough international bandwidth for retail use, a 30Mb plan is basically no faster for international connections than a 15Mb plan. Only your in-Thailand/domestic speed would be twice as fast by going from 15Mb to 30Mb benchmark-wise...and just because your domestic speed is twice as fast does not mean your domestic website browsing/page loading will be any a faster as you reach a point of diminishing speed return that can be perceived in day to day use. Yea, your benchmark speed would be higher, but it really wouldn't speed anything up realworld-wise. Plus you have the issue of some sites you connect to only feeding out data at a certain speed and/or they just get overloaded with too many users at once (like ThaiVisa sometimes), and it don't matter if you have a 100Mb plan as the web pages won't work no faster than if you were on a 10Mb plan.

what server did you use for testing? Thai or international? if you tested a Thai server your result is rather irrelevant.

see the differencies:

i [not so] humbly beg to differ. i have besides CAT nominal 35mb also 3BB and TOT (the latter two each nominal 15mb). international connections = huge big difference!

To get back to the simple question of the topic starter.

Sure 15/1 is more than sufficient for your purpose!

Referring to post #5: even for local IPTV offerings (ExpatTV, 365Sport and the like) it is still sufficient.

And of course enough for all kind of audio (internet radio etc.).

The upload rates (1 Mbit/s in your case) were / are unusually low compared to European countries (download/upload ratio).

High upload is only relevant if you want to upload big amounts of pictures or videos.

Typically important for "cloud" users.

The latest offerings from the providers seem to address this (like 25/10 from ToT fibre for 990).

CAT is just giving your preferential treatment due to your reputation. (grin)

I have the same package as the OP described. I'm fine with the speed. But it's a issue about the long ping which isn't the providers fault.

dont always rely on the speedtest. ips use tricks to always show full speed tests my means of cached files.

NO, NO - Internet companies are professional - have ethics. I believe everything they say - BS>

I do not fully understand this throttling/international gate - where, or how do, companies get their internet at full speeds to the outside world (maybe differnt internet plans we are not allowed) ?

ISP's share bandwidth between multiple users. e.g. they might have a 1gps node servicing 500x 20mbps subscribers (just an example, not actual numbers). If all those subscribers use their full bandwidth allocation simultaneously, everyone's only get 2mbps speeds. However, that never actually happens because not everyone is downloading 24x7.

Business plans either have a much lower contention ratio (e.g. 1gpbs servicing 15x 100mbps subscribers), or they pay even more for dedicated bandwidth.

Such plans are also available to residential subscribers, but the price might scare you off ;)

From a redunancy standpoint, it is likely better to have one stable landline ISP (such as 3bb) and then 1 mobile ISP, like My Cat. 15Mb/1Mb up should be sufficient, if you are getting it consistently.

Too free up some bandwidth, if you do a lot of bittorrent, you might want to use a seedbox instead. Your seedbox handles 24/7 downloading/seeding of torrents, and you only have to download the torrent directly from the seedbox once (ftp or http). And the seedbox normally downloads very fast.
