girlx Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 Looking for LONG TERM FARANG (or a Thai who likes dogs), preferably in Thong Nai Pan who is willing to take on a lovely, very affectionate dog, raised since a baby by an American girl, who now has to move on. “Puppy” is just over a year old, has all her shots (at 6 mos.) and is spayed. She is a medium sized mixed breed with the markings of a German Shepherd. She is very well behaved. She is a mostly outside dog but has been allowed to sleep inside the house at night and when it is raining. She loves to be around people. She loves to play on the beach, and does a lot of hunting in the jungle. She eats twice a day- I can provide food to get you started. Just needs a place where she might be comfortable and feel loved. She has a best pal named Scruffy who will probably hang around a bit as well, but he is used to being a street dog and can probably take care of himself. If no one is found to take care of Puppy, euthanization will be considered, as she is totally domesticated and can not survive on the street. It is possible, depending on my landlord, that I can make a deal, where someone may stay in my house in the village in Thong Nai Pan Yai, for free or a discounted rent, if they will watch my dog(s) while I am gone for 3-6 months. Please contact Nicole at 07-264-0706 or email [email protected]. Thanks!
Lovesun Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 GirlX please consider getting some help from the staff at the Samui Dog Rescue centre before you consider euthenizing your young dog. I dont mean to be rude, but perhaps you could set yourself up on a more permanent basis next time before you adopt a pet that will live for about 15 years, so you dont have to consider such drastic measures when you have to "move on". Here is the info http://www.samuidog.org/
girlx Posted September 24, 2006 Author Posted September 24, 2006 yes, i already went through all this on this thread near the bottom: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?sh...79361&st=30
JohnC Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 Firstly I must apologise, being new to Thailand I have not yet grasped the geography, I live in Pattay and if you are strugling I would give your dog a home. As we say in UK a dog is not just for christams it is for life. We can give him/her (I refuse to say it!) a good home along with our Thai husky where you can be guarented a loving caring home. Anyways let me know.
mafaso Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 Have any pics? I'm on Samui and am looking for a dog. Maybe we can meet up this week? I'd like to see some pics first if you have them.

Here is the info http://www.samuidog.org/ Maybe you don't mean to be rude but you are. She gives no indication of why she has to leave so why assume she is just dumping the dog and didn't think it through before she got it? Maybe she had planned on living here forever, maybe her parents died and she has to return home, there could be a million reasons why. It does seem she has some sense of responsibility as she is trying to find a good home for her dog and not just abandon it. So get off you high horse and get the full story before preaching next time.

So get off you high horse and get the full story before preaching next time. You should read more into her story then Mafaso More then likely she has to leave because of the new rules about border run visa stamps would be my guess from the clues such as she has to be out of Thailand for 3-6 months before returning and even then will she be able to take the dog back to then have to again give it up when she has to leave yet once again. Why would one even take a pet other then their own comfort and not consider the dogs needs when they have to leave.
John 1 Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 At least she is attempting to find a home for the dog, she could dump it on the street if she wished, I don't believe when someone take a dog as a pet they intend to leave it behind, but situations change, so why give her a hard time. Didn't some of you guys leave your dog or pussy at home when you came to live in Thailand.

girlx Posted September 25, 2006 Author Posted September 25, 2006 minburi i have a proper visa but it's a good point, i bet some people are going to be forced to leave their doggies.
girlx Posted September 26, 2006 Author Posted September 26, 2006 just as an update, i have received a couple of responses though no takers as of yet... but this young woman sent me her website about the 33 dogs she has taken in and given a home. found her to be very dedicated and lovely- was very impressed by her site and her story. if anyone has time or money to donate, please send her some love. Elfe's World also Phangan Animal Care needs all the help they can get- they saved my other (street) dog today from a horrible heartworm death. PAC
Boo Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 Elfe was previously a moderator on thaivisa. She does great work on Samui with the dog problem there. Sadly it is a never ending battle. Hope you find a good home for your dog girlx.
elfe Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 (edited) thanks for your compliments becky, if everyone just helped a little bit, in which way ever, the battle will not be neverending, it will be won one day Edited September 26, 2006 by elfe
girlx Posted September 26, 2006 Author Posted September 26, 2006 they saved my other (street) dog today from a horrible heartworm death a little off topic but just wanted to note that i spoke too soon. my dog is apparently in the late and severe stages of heartworm. it prevents his blood from clotting so he has been bleeding non stop from his nose and mouth. he has lost so much blood, my house looks like a butcher shop. he also has lost control of his bladder a few times and his urine has blood in it. he vomits black stuff that looks like earth. he can't move on his own. and the worst part is, his lungs are failing him. i have been watching him die all night. the thing about heartworm treatment is that you kill all the worms, but then the body is full of dead worms. for those who have pets, get heartworm prevention.
elfe Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 oh no what a horror!! are u sure it's heartworm, it sounds more like rat poison!! it makes the body bleed from inside, the only cure would be vitamin k1. i hope you have some painkillers, please give him a lot or get valium from the next pharmacy, injections would be the best. i know how it fees to be so helpless and see a beloved dog die and not being able to do anything big hugs from samui and i send you a lot of power and strength for what you are going through now
girlx Posted September 27, 2006 Author Posted September 27, 2006 (edited) definitely heartworm... spent yesterday at the vet. basically it shut down all his organs. RIP scruffy 10am 27/9/06 With the arteries plugged with worms, the heart must pump harder against the pressure of the plugged arteries. This condition is called "PULMONARY HYPERTENSION " and the right side of the heart must drastically increase its ability to work. The heart may be strong enough - and it may not. The arteries dilate and become tortuous (which may be visible on a radiograph). Aneurysms and abnormal blood clotting (embolism) results. Blood is shunted to other arteries which are not plugged up by worms and fluid begins to accumulate in the lung around the worm-filled arteries. Blood sent to the lung is not sufficiently oxygenated and areas of the lung become consolidated and are unable to provide oxygen to the blood. Coughing and exercise intolerance result as areas of the lung are lost to the blood oxygenation process. Nose bleeds may occur due to abnormal blood clotting in the lung. more info on heartworm here Edited September 27, 2006 by girlx
elfe Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 poor scruffy he will be waiting for you at the other end of the rainbowbridge....
Skyline Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 So sorry to hear that girlx....breaks my heart to hear those stories. Hats off to elfe and girlx for helping the dogs down on Samui/Pha Ngan!!
sbk Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 So, are you still looking for a home for your other dog? To be honest, by limiting yourself to Koh PHangan and Thong Nai pan specifically you are really limiting your ability to find your dog a good home. Please post a pic of the dog you want to find a home for, it may help.
MYMA Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 Girlx, Have you found a home for your dog? You posted over a week ago and stated that if you did not find someone to take the dog you were going to have to take the drastic measure of having he/she put down. Needless to say, I think myself and others, judging from the other posts, would appreciate it if you gave us an update.
girlx Posted October 2, 2006 Author Posted October 2, 2006 now i have just read the even newer visa laws and am confused about what will happen when i go to extend my multi-entry tourist visa on friday. i have had many of them back to back and they may just send me home. that would mean i would have to leave koh phangan by the 12th (in a week and a half). i have not found her a home yet. hopefully i still have a bit longer to look- i wasn't planning on leaving so quickly.
seville Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 If you have been doing border runs every 30 days then you very well get sent home within 7 days, but if you are coming to the end of say a 60 day tourist visa with multipal entrys you should be fine. The way I understand it, if you have a mutipal entry visa from the states at the end of the visa you can do up to 3 30 day runs, before you have to go home. Do post what happens and where you are in your cycle of tourist visas and types. There seems to be a lot of confusion and little posting of people that have been to the borders. Good luck finding a home for your dog.
sbk Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 girlx, if you really want to find your dog a home then please start a seperate topic about your visa runs and how Samui immigration deal with your visa extension. Now, back to the topic of finding your dog a home, would you be willing to find a home outside TNP for your dog? It might mean taking her over to Samui.
girlx Posted October 3, 2006 Author Posted October 3, 2006 (edited) the visa runs are relevant to whether or not my dogs needs a home immediately or not. i see no point in constantly reminding people to stay on topic on this board.... topics can become convoluted but the point of a discussion board is to have a discussion, no? i am looking for a good home for my dog. i would prefer to keep her here in her home but beggars can't be choosers. however, my transporting her anywhere else (other than samui) might be difficult. Edited October 3, 2006 by girlx
sbk Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 Well, I guess if you want the importance of finding a home for you dog diluted by your visa information then feel free, go ahead. I was just suggesting that it might be a more effective way to find your dog a home. And frankly, not sure how "beggars can't be choosers" apply in this situation. You have no money to help find a home for this dog? You have really exhausted all possibilities? Have you told PAC your plans (ie euthanize your dog if you can't find it a home) perhaps they would help you out. if they knew. Have you tried putting out fliers on the island? Just some suggestions you may not have considered.

I always find a workout on the weights or heavy bag a wonderful release of tension. Possibly not the best solution here though. Might I suggest a bout of mud wrestling between the two of you? You'd feel much better for it and probably come out as bossom buddies. Oops, off thread again.....
Patsycat Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 (edited) Leave it.. They are both just wanting what is best for Puppy and having different opinions on this. Round two.... ding dong.... Very sorry about Scruffy, but he is not suffering any more and is running with the sun and smiles..... Edited October 4, 2006 by Patsycat

Also, it's nice to hear that at least one cat in this world is concerned about a dog.
sbk Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 I cannot volunteer to take the dog because I have a resort with 5 dogs already and I happen to be out of the country. If I weren't in the resort and were home, I would offer to take the dog just to save its life. Even if it were just a temporary measure to find it a home. I am not upset with girlx, I just find her attitude confusing. Perhaps that is the tension you think you feel, somchai?
