Bomb technique was 'taught by foreigners'

Firstly, the photofit of the suspect could be Thai.

Secondly, the only reason that the pier bomb didn't cause casualties is because it bounced off a railing.

If the suspect wanted to get rid of it, why did it get armed and triggered? It was meant to kill.

The amazing thing is that this kind of stupidity is readily accepted and printed. How gullible must the local journalists be to not have follow up questions like yours? How gullible must the population be to accept such garbage as truth.

Why did it get armed is the wrong question. You have already had your question answered - now just move along and pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

"The bank note has been submitted to the scientific crime detection unit for fingerprint and DNA analysis. It could provide crucial evidence to nail down the suspect," the source added. Police spokesman Lt-General Prawut Thavornsiri said a sketch of the suspect had been given to Interpol so that 190 other countries could help with the search for the suspect.

These are the kinds of stories we get when we teach them english ahead of critical thinking skillssad.png Good luck with finger prints on the money. Picked the guy up in Yannawa? What's the bet there are a hundred Chinese prints on that note laugh.png

Maybe you're thinking of Yaowarat? Yannawa is no more Chinese than any average part of Bangkok...

Would the blast only be able to come from TNT or C4 ? couldnt it be some homemade explosive like TATP ? dont know anything about explosives but if its something homemade then it would require less of an operation ( assuming TNT/C4 would be hard to come by for regular people ).

As goes for the people who say it takes lots of brains to create the timer/remote control thing, today you got so much home automation around, Internet of things, so doubt it is that much of a brainer to activate a detonator - heck they could even have made a small app or something to be able to control it all across the internet as long as the unit inside was on 3/4G, didnt even need a phone-call. And these devices today are almost as small as a matchbox today.

So a semi nerdy student with abit of tech savyness and/or a chemistry student ( if its homemade ) would be all it would take.

"And our in-depth investigations reveal that foreigners of unknown nationality came to Thailand in 2011 to provide training on such a technique," the source said."

Thats right blame the foreigner again.

If they don't know who they are, how do they know they are foreigners?

This source seems to know a lot about the bomb. Are they sure it wasn't the source that done the bombing? Is the source an unknown national.

"And our in-depth investigations reveal that foreigners of unknown nationality came to Thailand in 2011"

Have a word with TAT I'm sure they can shed some light on that little gem?

As for the bombing technique being "taught by foreigners" Really? It requires foreign brains to put a pipe bomb in a bag, leave the bag at the chosen location and then walk away and detonate? Wow In a round about way that it actually quite insulting to Thais. The fact they woudl have to be taught something so bleedin obvious.

Personally i reckon it was more likely someone Thai - simply because the tuk-tuk driver only charged him 20 baht for the ride.

I love the last paragraph, it's so true.

Also, why do the authorities have to make comments daily if they're no closer now than before.

If there are no real developments, use the old stand by "no comment".

A foreigner should try to take the same Tuk Tuk route and see what they have to pay.

In depth investigations. Kind of cute. Who is doing the investigation? What are their credentials? Were they trained overseas? Because I doubt they had a seriously talented mentor locally. Nearly a week already and no results. At least they have not arrested any young Burmese workers, like the innocent dark tâo kids.

If the explosive used indeed was TNT, the there is no expert 'instructor', foreign or local. At something like 7000m/s blast velocity you don't need to make it into a pipe bomb (pipe bombs are designed to overcome the shortcomings of low explosives), just tape short nails or ball bearings straight onto it "Claymore style", stick in a blasting cap (you can improvise one), add an amplifying circuit with a battery (or any high voltage source), connect it to a cell phone ringer, and Voilà! you've got a bomb [remote controlled]. Takes about an afternoon [shopping included] once you got the explosive.

Are you Irish ?

So, he's saying the bomb-maker was Thai!

All the statements in the OP are a whole lot of blather, trying to sound professional, but coming out as bits of unconnected rubbish and inconsequential trivia.

As usual they're attempting the old tactic of deflecting attention from the reality of mishandling and incompetence and just as usual they're failing miserably.

If they had this indepth investigation about 2011 why did they not have the country on alert. Then again why not arrest those responsible then. Or the ones they trained. What a load of bulls**t

Bomb technique was 'taught by foreigners'

Family members and friends of Di Wu Chengi, a Chinese tourist killed in last Monday's explosion at the Erawan Shrine, take part in a church service at the Holy Redeemer Church in Bangkok yesterday.

BANGKOK: -- Police looking for taxi driver who took suspect from yannawa to hua lamphong

INVESTIGATORS believe that the plotters behind the Erawan Shrine and Sathorn pier blasts might have relied on a foreign bomb-making technique, an informed source said.

"Such a technique did not exist in Thailand before. And our in-depth investigations reveal that foreigners of unknown nationality came to Thailand in 2011 to provide training on such a technique," the source said.

The suspected bomber wanted in connection with the bloody attack at the Erawan Shrine does not look Thai.

The shrine attack occurred on Monday night and the bloodless pier attack happened on Tuesday afternoon. The shrine blast killed 20 people and injured more than 100. The bomb at the pier exploded in a canal.

According to the source, TNT was used for both pipe bombs.

"Explosive powder was stuffed into steel pipes with a huge number of ball bearings," the source added.

The source said the detonation of a TNT bomb could be delayed for several days, if an electric circuit was involved. "This means the authorities will have to go back at least four days when examining security footage." The source said the pier bomber clearly did not intend to cause any casualties as the bomb was placed in a canal directly adjacent to the Chao Phraya River.

"That person must have known full well that the destructive power of the bomb would be reduced when it is immersed in water," the source said.

Police have also considered the possibility that the pier blast might have been unintentional, as the person who discarded the bomb in the water might have just wanted to get rid of the explosives after the attack at the shrine, the source said.

Security footage showed the person, who put the bag believed to contain a bomb in the canal, did so not long after the shrine attack.

Another source disclosed that the suspected shrine bomber took a taxi to the Hua Lamphong train station and then took a tuk-tuk to the shrine on Monday.

"Police are trying to locate the taxi driver. We have been informed that the taxi picked up the suspect from Yannawa area," the source added.

The tuk-tuk driver gave police the Bt20 the suspect used to pay the fare.

He confirmed that there had been much progress in the case. "But I can't disclose details."

The National Council for Peace and Order shared his stance.

"Officials are working to bring the culprits to justice. But at this point, we can't disclose details, as that may affect the ongoing investigations," NCPO spokesman Winthai Suvari said yesterday in a nationally televised statement.

He said 56 of the shrine-blast victims remained hospitalised.

In a related development, officials from the Chinese embassy in Bangkok accompanied the relatives of four Chinese tourists killed at the shrine to the Institute of Forensic Medicine yesterday.

The relatives secured the bodies ahead of the funeral rites being held.

Taught by foreigners? Really? To teach means active participation and transferring knowledge or skill. But if the knowledge or skill was learned from the Internet, then the skill was acquired through diligent research. To say foreigner just alienates all non-Thais and makes them suspects. Kind of xenophobic really.
