I got a couple older laptops I dont use, what to do?

Featured Replies

I got a couple of laptops that I dont use and would like to get rid of them

my thoughts are

1. Sell there somewhere? where could I just walk in and sell a couple laptops make a few bucks

2. Then again donating them might not be a bad idea, they still work and I recently cleared them both so they are ready to go - any suggestions where I could donate a laptop to be put to good use to someone?

thanks

If you want to sell them, post their specs. and what you want for them.

If you want to donate them to a good home, I'd adopt one and promise to look after it.... lol

Less than 1 mb of RAM, they are worth about zero. There is a place on the north side of the moat, about 150 m from Ricer's Corner...they specialize in used laptops....

I would also take good care of them. The small ram is not important, as I would use a live linux distro on them....and use them for video surveillance...(recording movement and sending photos of that movement to my phone/email.

One is a Samsung

SAMSUNG ATIV Book 9 Lite NP915S3G 13.3" Touchscreen Notebook with Quad Core AMD A-Series A6-1450 1.00GHz (1.40Ghz Turbo), 4GB RAM, 128GB SSD, AMD Radeon HD 8250 Windows 8 64-Bit (probably will upgrade to 10 once u get it on the internet as 10 upgrade is free)

used that one as a coffee machine latpop, its light weight but after a while the screen resolution was just not big enough for me

the other is

Toshiba T510 was a top of the line business laptop when I got it. Its heavier and more bulky so more of a home laptop but

it has 8 GB of RAM, 64 bit, Windows 7 PRO which also will probably upgrade to 10 for free if you so desire

Intel Core i7 2.67 GHZ Hard drive is 500gb

Those are both great machines with good specs.

if anyone is interested in either hit me up on message and we can work out a good price..

Donate them......Find a couple students that will really use them......

I could be interested.

Do you have a salesprice in mind for your Toshiba T510?

Both would sell.. I would possibly be interested in the former for a spare machine..

Donate them to a school near you. They will be able to use them.

Your used laptops are better than my primary. However, I only surf the internet, do online banking, mail and thaivisa. I did buy my girl an Ipad...which is very nice on long trips (battery life/portablility.

Just had AIS fibre put in, and I get an android box tossed in for 350 baht a month. Just use a wireless keyboard, and the darn thing works as good as my laptop. Now my laptop just sits on the table. So, at home..laptops are obsolete with me... On the road, the IPAD fills in all the gaps. Gamers might find a use for expensive, high end computers/laptops...but I am actually out of the market.

Yeah it's funny how quick the OPs donate option seemed to disappear.

not really true I was hoping someone had a better idea then give them to two students , I just go to the school and scream out have used laptops first come first serve

If someone had chimed in about a particular charity or organization or particular school and where to go and who to contact then I would seriously consider this

but no one really did. I was hoping perhaps that someone that runs or works at a place like this might have chimed in.

To the the nearest elementary school. Ask to speak to the Principal. Hand her (usually a her..) the laptops with the accessories and power su[pplies you have, wai her and say chok dee.

You will make the school very happy.

just sell them at the place Bangmai mentions. Then they probably end up at someone that can actually use them. Donate the money if you want, good for your merit, or support the local economy by having a good night out in town. You can get 10,000 baht or more.

Donate them to a government elementary school, preferable a countryside one. The Principal or English Teacher will decide if will be used on the school, or give it to poor good students.

From the specs they are probably still worth a few quit, but if you don't need the money, look for a Orphanage or disabled people care center and donate to them.

I'm sure there are those in your area.

Been Quiet I decided to upgrade them myself

and let me apologize it was not a Toshiba T510 my brain was not functioning

Lenovo T510 which now has Windows Pro 10 , I7 Processor, 8 GB ram , 500 Gb Hardrive

the other is the

Samsung Ativ Book 9 smaller unit, got it for coffee shops etc 4 gb ram , 128 SSD Drive, quad core, and I just upraded that to windows 10 Home

Both are from clean installs and yes windows 10 was a little tricky to set up at first but went pretty smoothly

just wanted to update those that still see this post and wonder if the units are still around

they are both gone

thanks all

As a general advice, before selling or giving away your PCs better to clean the HDDs...

As the most popular GPU manufacturer in the world, I can't imagine why you think a PC that contains their hardware would be difficult to upgrade? AMD is the second largest GPU manufacturer for that matter, so I can only conclude that you are talking through your hat.

Next time you're at a circle jerk with some of your gamer buddies; maybe you should ask them. Nvidia's software says my driver is up to date.
