Win 10 and VM Ware Problems

Featured Replies

Hi anyone want to pitch in with what might the problem be with Win 10 and VM Ware?

I ran VM no problem on Win 8.1, motherboard is Asus P8Z77V-Deluxe.

I have to enable the VM in the MB BIOS, this I have done no problem. However, once I enable VM in the Win 10 control panel (add Windows Features) the PC reboots, then will load as far as the blue Win logo (no twirling white arrow timer) then just reboots.

The only way I can get it to reboot again is to disable the VM in the BIOS!

Anny suggestions thanks.

Can you be more specific? I'm a bit confused.

You say that you enable VM by using add windows features. From that I assume you mean enabling Hyper-V.

If that is the case why do you start off by saying your problem is with VMware? I'm pretty sure you can't run 2 hypervisors simultaneously.

Is there a BIOS update available for your motherboard, and if so have you applied it?

sorry, it is Hyper V! (The Intel Virtualization is in the BIOS, it is called VMM or similar)

As far as I am aware, the Intel Virtualization has to be first enabled on the Motherboard via the BIOS, which is what I had to do with Win 8. Secondly, as you stated, the VMware has to be enabled in the Programs and Features, which is what I did previously in Win 8 and then was able to create a Win 7 virtual machine on the Win 8 PC.

When I carry out the same steps here, I am unable to get the machine to even boot to the log in screen.

It is a Asus P8Z77V-Deluxe MB, Intel 3770K (stock speed) Win 10 Pro x64

Thanks

Sadly there is no more updates to the BIOS, I am at the current latest version 2104

If you boot in safe mode so you get the same results?

Unless I enable the Intel virtualization option in BIOS, then most of the Hyper V options from within Windows are greyed out and unselectable, in other words, it is useless.

I can get the thing to boot in safe mode yes, with the Intel Virtualization enabled in the BIOS and the Windows Hyper V, but cannot use it in safe mode.

No but do the disk mgmt/explorer results look the same even in safe mode?

Have you tried toggling the EDB switch in the BIOS. If enabled try disabled and if disabled try enabled.

Then see if it will boot with Hyper-V

Here is where it stands at the moment - I have enabled the Intel V stuff in the BIOS, boots fine. Go into Control panel to enable windows features, there are two checkboxes for Hyper V, if I select Hyper V management and reboot it boots up no problem.

If I then go in to control panel again and select the other check box = Enable Hyper V Platform, it refuses to boot.

Lastly If I remove the check box against the Hyper V management check box and leave ONLY the Hyper V Platform checked it again refuses to boot.

What is the EDB toggle? Is Disable Bit?

Mea culpa two threads one phone :)

Thank you so much for your help, really, I was totally stumped!

Yes. Execute Disable Bit. Should be on the same BIOS page as VT-X or whatever ASUS are calling it.

Great! I've been in the same situation. Can be very frustrating.

It never ceases to amaze me how much obscure information we all have filed away somewhere.
