Netflix search engines

Featured Replies

I decided to create a topic and gather information about the netflix search engines available out there due to the amount of people that are frustrated by Netflix’s search function.

So, what’s the problem with Netflix’s search function? Simply, you are not able to search by applying filters (ie: by IMDB rating or released year). Also, for the genre filter option that they provide, you have to keep scrolling through unwanted content to find something to watch like that really reinforces just how bad it is, despite all these claims about how clever their search function is.

After getting pretty annoyed by not being able to find something to watch or by being recommended to watch something that I have already watched in the past , I’ve tried lots of Netflix search engines. Here’s my comparison:

Filmefy.com:

Pros:

  • Accurate results

  • Supports all Netflix regions

  • Ability to search by using filters such as: IMDB ratings, genre, year and director

  • Ability to create playlists and see other people’s playlists (good way to find something to watch)

Cons:

  • No Rotten Tomatoes ratings

  • No mobile apps as of today

Moreflicks.com

Pros:

  • Supports a number of streaming services such as Hulu and iTunes

  • Supports all Netflix regions

  • Nice UI

Cons:

  • Not enough filters available to use. They only provide a genre filter

  • No mobile apps as of today

  • Seems dead to me. I believe that it is not updated anymore.

Allflicks.net

Pros:

  • Ability to search by using filters such as: IMDB ratings, genre and released year

Cons:

  • Bad UI

  • No Rotten Tomatoes filter

  • No mobile apps as of today

  • Does not support all Netflix regions

Flixseek.com

Pros:

  • Handy navigation bar on the left of their home page

  • Ability to search by using filters such as: IMDB ratings, genre and released year.

  • Supports all Netflix regions

Cons:

  • Bad UI

  • No mobile apps as of today

Heroflicks.com

Pros:

  • Ability to search by using filters such as: IMDB ratings, genre and many more

  • Supports Redbox too.

  • Nice UI

Cons:

  • Supports only US Netflix

  • Unable to get redirected to Netflix from their website

  • Does not have trailers of movies/series

  • No mobile apps as of today

The informations posted in this thread are a result of my testings and feedbacks from other people with the same problem. Anything to add from your end?
