Hi tech heads,

I have downloaded a Rar file and when i extract it using WINRar i can only get audio and no video. :D

Any suggestions on what to do? :o

I have tried opening it directly through media player and Winamp but to no avail. :D

All suggestions would be greatfully accepted. :D

Cheers.

What was the extension after extraction, .avi .mpg ...?

Probably missing codec (possibly divx or xvid codec which are common). You can try VLC player (VideoLan) and see if it will play or download codec packs which have a large set of codecs in them. Google can find them.

It's pretty common to encode .avi files with either divx or xvid encoders, so should try to download them (codec pack). Try this one (also free): http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Codec_Pack_All_in_1.htm

Hi tywais,

I was using an older version of Codec Pack All In 1 as well. This nasty thing had no uninstall so

to get rid of it I had to remove the codecs manually. Major headache :o

On top, the website was only in Chech :D ... never again!

Are you using the latest version? Just wondering if they improved it...

cheers,

Hi tywais, im on the download screen now but wondering where i should save it to.

Any directory will do, just remember where it was saved. I have a directory I created called "Temp" for things like this, or you can make one called 'Download'. After it downloads just double click on the file and it will begin the installation process.

Actually I use K-Lite codec pack but it is HUGH and may be difficult for a computer novice to weed through which codecs to install, why I pointed to that one. If you think it is problematic then perhaps the K-Lite would be better (it does work). http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm

Yes, I think K-Lite is much better choice. You also might try this one:
