I hope this is the right forum for this post. I would like to know if anyone has had any success calling the USA collect using a mobile phone. The company I need to call has given me a number I can use to call collect from outside the USA. They have also provided me with a toll-free number and directions for using ATT international to call them using their toll free number.I am stranded upcountry and do not have access to a landphone. I have called the company collect from Thailand many times before using a landphone without problems. My acquaintance said I won't get anywhere using a cell phone when trying to call collect.

You can call a US toll-free number for free using skype on the mobile.

Yes, USA, UK, and a few other countries are toll-free from skype.

If you had a Google Voice number, you could call any USA number free (the toll-free numbers are buggy....you get the toll number and call that one instead. And send a text message to most USA mobile numbers also.

I just use 004, Skype is a problem from my apt. My elderly parents hate the lag, issues and dropped calls. Price varies, but its cheapish. Dkype is crap if you are not fully plugged into some thick pipe. Its one of the most overrated net services I can think of.

Check out MagicJack. I've used it for six years and can call anywhere in the US and Canada toll free for a yearly fee of around $40.00.

Forget collect.

Just dial direct with your cell phone.

No muss nor fuss.

2 baht/min.

$1 gets ya 15+ minutes.

PM me on how to do this if you can't figger 'er out /web search.

Another vote for google voice. I have used it for years .. All calls to US are free ... I don't use 800 numbers too often but never had a problem. But most companies have non 800 numbers also ..

I agree, not worth the hassle to do otherwise. Called US toll free number recently to activate credit card using 001 on AIS. Charge was 10.8 baht.
