The leniency was also based on the fact that his family provided compensation to the victims.

so basically if you pay the money you get less time in prison..what kind of a justice system is that?

It's done for the same reason voluntary compensation leads to more lenient sentencing in almost every other country in the world. It indicates guilt and encourages direct compensation for the victims.

It makes me laugh when people say blame the parents or his father should not have let him drive.

He was 25 when he did this, not a teenager as stated in the sloppy reporting. Therefore an adult in law and makes his own decisions (badly).

2 years seems ridiculously low, also he will get a cell alone, he can afford it.

So you're saying this mentally ubstable man was able to keep a job that enabled him to buy his own mercedes at the age of 25

Wow finally, justice is too slow in Thailand especially when rich people are involved. Its good that the guy finally has to go to jail. I always thought it was a farce when he did not have to go to jail. Finally some justice.

Next on the list red bull and the teenager that hit the minivan with people in it.

Vorayuth Yoovidhaya, the Red Bull Heir, will NEVER serve time for his crime.. And was it really a crime or an awful accident ? Shit happens in life and I think this spoilt young man hit the motorcyclist by accident and then panicked ..

when he realised the driver was a policeman. The policeman's family accepted ten million bahts in compensation. Will help to fill the space left by the dead policeman. This is Thailand and it's the way it works here. Let the young guy alone and let him live his life. He has to have that on his conscience forever. wai.gif

The guy was high on drugs / alcohol, then its not an accident. He also dragged the police officer with him for quite some distance. Does not look like a normal accident.

Yes....and the other thing that needs to be pointed out is how everyone of them ...always ...immediately begin to LIE and feign innocence when they are caught out.

I have never heard of a case ( most likely there is, but very rare ) when they admit their guilt or wrong doing and face the charges and accept the responsibility for their actions or conduct while their family members also immediately begin to sustain the lies and pull strings on their behalf and try near everything in Their Power to deflect the responsibility and or completely exonerate them....but done illegally....as in paying off the relevant authorities or threatening those people who are effected and seeking justice or the people who are helping those seeking justice.

Again and again and again......... while it will never change at that end of the spectrum while the only way really is by way of a justice system that actually enforces the laws and sets a precedent in a manner that is not corrupted or can not be corrupted so easily.

Anyhow ....it is nice to day dream sometimes about the way things could be.

Cheers

BANGKOK: -- THE SUPREME Court has jailed a man over a much-publicised road-rage death, overruling a lower court's verdict.

Kanpitak Pachimsawat, widely known as "Moo Ham", crashed his Mercedes Benz into a crowd of people in 2007, killing a bus conductor.

The 27-year-old, who has previously sought mental treatment, appeared calm as the verdict was read out yesterday. He has been jailed for two years and one month.

His parents, businessman Kan-anek and former beauty queen Savinee, were not present for the verdict.

Kanpitak was convicted on all counts for killing and injuring others.

According to witnesses, Kanpitak quarrelled with a bus driver and hit him with a rock on July 4, 2007.

The bus conductor and passengers who had to get off the bus due to the quarrel surrounded Kanpitak's car and loudly complained.

Kanpitak's younger sister was in the car and broke into tears, resulting in Kanpitak being thrown into a fit of rage.

He said he was lovesick at that time and had not seen his doctor at a psychiatric hospital for more than one month.

Rage blamed on mental health

The Court of Appeals handed him a suspended jail term in 2013 on the grounds he committed the crimes because of his mental-health problems.

The leniency was also based on the fact that his family provided compensation to the victims.

The mother of the bus conductor received more than |Bt2 million. But public prosecutors and a plaintiff petitioned the Supreme Court.

In jailing Kanpitak, the court said despite his mental-health problems he deserved to serve a jail term based on his age, behaviour at the time, and the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Kanpitak Pachimsawat, widely known as "Moo Ham"

"Moo" means pig/pork, "Ham" is slang for male reproductive organ

wouldn't be my first choice as a nickname wub.png

Well named.

Not sure about that. The HAM in his name is spelt แฮม which means ham and not หำ meaning testicle.
