Two Democrats nominated for new reform committee
THE NATION

BANGKOK: -- THE Democrat Party has nominated former party-list MPs Kasit Piromya and Thawil Praison to become members of the National Reform Steering Committee, a party source said yesterday.

Meanwhile, Democrat leader Abhsit Vejjajiva yesterday voiced opposition to a proposal from Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam to have all political parties register as new parties.

Abhisit said this move was aimed at dissolving all parties in the Kingdom.

Instead, he said, the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) should reform the structure of political parties and boost their standards so they can become institutions that belong to the people.

However, he declined to say if there could be a hidden motive behind the proposal, such as removing party executives, or even removing him as party leader because he opposed the move to set up a national unity government.

Abhisit said he had heard that some people wanted small parties to be established so they can team up to create a national unity government.

"We should move away from this illusion. Every party should give the NCPO suggestions on how political parties can be reformed instead," he said.

He also urged Wissanu to explain the purpose of his proposal, saying, "some people support the move, thinking it was just an administrative procedure, but if it means that their parties would be dissolved first, then they won't agree with the proposal".

I wonder if the two democrats will come back and say they are too busy to help heal the nation and then have a FB post the very next day on a farm inspecting Durian. Yeah yingluck!!

One can be assured these two democratic will allows put the majority first over their own selfish agenda knowing that the best way to help the majority is NOT to inspect fruit in the North and occasionally complain about everything, but to be pro active on panels and committee's that guide the future of Thailand.

Good luck to them and congratulations on being nominated.

It's amazing how focused and rational Abhisit can be when his political future is in jeapordy.

If this was Mao's Great Leap Forward, Abhisit would be in the rice fields knee deep in paddy.

The foundation of democracy in Thailand might strengthen if only as a side effect to his personal pursuit. But democracy in Thailand needs all the support it can garner - even if unitentional!
