NLA to discuss land expropriation for Green Line train construction on Oct 1

BANGKOK, 27 September 2015 (NNT) - The National Legislative Assembly has set a date to discuss a process to facilitate the construction of the Green Line rail project.

NLA President Pornpetch Wichitcholchai has issued an invitation to members of the legislature to a sitting on October 1 to discuss a number or urgent agendas.

One of the main issues is to acknowledge the progress of the Cabinet in the expropriation of land for the construction of the Green Line electric rail system from Bearing to Samut Prakan.

The NLA will also review a study on the city planning and land use by the special committee in charge.

In addition, the legislature will hear the report on the operations of the Anti-Money Laundering Office during fiscal year 2014.

KHAO LAK: Rescue workers at 10.30pm on Friday (September 25) were alerted by local fishermen concerned about a weak dolphin they found struggling to swim in a shallow cove near the Khao Pakarung Cape in Ta Kua Pa district's Kuek Kak locale.

Flashfloods warned among Phang-nga residents

PHANG-NGA, 27 September 2015 (NNT) - Phang-nga Province is battered by gusty winds and heavy rainfalls as people have been told to look out for possible flashfloods.

Many parts of Phang-nga Province have been hit be continuous rains as authorities are now monitoring the situation very closely amid fears of possible flooding and landslides.

According to the governor of Phang-nga, Prayoon Rattanasenee, risk prone areas include Takua Pa, Kapong, Kuraburi, Thai Muang, and Muang districts. He noted that response teams would be on a 24-hour look out to assist those affected.

Meanwhile in the central plain area, the ongoing drought has exacerbated in Sukhothai Province where rice and other crops are struggling without water. Local officials have therefore installed 3 giant water pumping machines with capacities of distributing water to more than 20,000 rai of farm land.

NCPO: Security units still on high alert

BANGKOK, 27 September 2015 (NNT) - The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) says security personnel are still on 24-hour alert in a bid to protect lives and properties.

In his national televised address, NCPO spokesman Colonel Winthai Suvaree revealed that security related agencies were working hand in hand to ensure safety for the locals as well as the tourists, hoping to restore full confidence in the kingdom.

According to him, Thai authorities are speedily raising awareness among members of the public and the private sector on possible unexpected incidents while urging anyone who comes across any suspicious acts or activities to report them to the police immediately.

Transport Minister is confident GDP to grow by 3% in 2015

BANGKOK, 27 September 2015 (NNT) - Transport Minister, Arkhom Termpittayapaisith, expressed confidence that the 2015 GDP will grow by more than 3%, as a result of the government’s policy to stimulate the economy. He admits that a deficit in export remains and expects it to be at about 4%, but added that the final number will have to be revealed by the Ministry of Commerce.

As for the 2016 budget, the Ministry of Transport has already proceeded according to the government’s policy and will expedite disbursement in the first trimester of the fiscal year, in order to ensure all goals are being met.

Prime Minister, General Prayut Chan-o-cha, has been trying to speed up investment in various projects in an effort to kick off the projects during this government. The move is aimed to achieve continuity, so that when the next government takes over following the election, the work can be picked up right away.
