Is Twitter currently up for you in Thailand?

Hi, guys and gals!

For about one and a half hour, I can not use Twitter: I have an error message (connection timed out) in my main browser when I try to open or refresh my timeline. I tried with another browser and encountered the same issue.

I don't have this kind of problem with other websites that I am browsing at the moment, although, a few among them seem to be a bit slower than usual.

My ISP is TOT and I am using a WiNet access point. I am located in a small village in Udon Thani province.

I can't trace the route to twitter.com further than a TOT node (Request timed out).

Twitter.com is NOT down according to http://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/twitter.com.

Am I the only one having this problem?

Thank you, guys!

It seems that it's a TOT problem, then.

Crossy, which VPN are you using?

Is there one free of charge that you guys would recommend or suggest in the meanwhile?

Neither of my VPNs are free, I have a corporate Amazon VPN that comes out in Singapore and my own paid account with StrongVPN, at $1 a week it's pretty close to free.

Both get Twitter with no issues.

Ok!

Thank you again, guys!

NewGuy, I don't have the same issue that you are experiencing with Wikipedia nor ThaiVisa at the moment with TOT, but those websites are slower than usual and I have on a few occasions to reload their webpages when I can't access them at my first attempt. With Twitter, it's not loading at all for more than 2 hours now.

I am currently trying to find a free VPN service (I have found a few suggestions at TechSuppportAlert), but I might consider to pay for a more reliable solution (StrongVPN is reasonably priced, thanks for the suggestion, Crossy!) if this kind of problem persists or worsens.

Thanks again and have a good day, guys and gals!

I can't even get my VPN to connect. I can get to facebook, but not twitter or thaivisa unless I tether my phone and use my cellular data. Speedtest says I'm getting my full bandwidth, so it's not a speed problem. And I can get to SOME international sites, so I don't think it's an international gateway problem. I currently am using TOT and cannot access a whole number of web sites including Twitter and Yahoo, except by VPN. But other sites like Google are OK.

Thank you!

I can access yahoo.com but not mail.yahoo.com at the moment. I hadn't noticed that previously, but it confirms that the problem is at TOT's side and affects several websites.

Just FYI, I am currently testing several free (but limited) VPN solutions and at the moment, the one that is working the best for me is CyberGhost 5. Downloading the software was not easy today (network errors), but I succeeded at my third attempt.

There are other more convenient and reliable solutions of course.

A few other free VPN products are mentioned here:

This is a TOT issue.

All services you mention were doing fine -- try this: http://downrightnow.com/ -- but none of them were available.

I'v changed my DNS settings back to OPEN DNS and that worked. It didn't work during hours before.

They're just playing. It's weekend. Customer??? -- Be glad you're not disconnected.

.

OPEN DNS:

  • 208.67.222.222
  • 208.67.220.220

I did check those websites with something similar online (http://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/) and I already knew that they were up.

But I haven't tried yet to change my DNS settings (which I'm gonna do now).

Thank you for this valuable information!

A reboot of the router worked for me

Actually, it seems that everything is back to normal now, at least from my access point (I didn't have to change my DNS settings), but this tip might be useful for other people experiencing the same issue.

Thank you!

I'm currently having issues with twitter as well as some other sites.

I normally use VPN, but could not connect to it. Traceroute can not find it's way to some of the sites.

(Unfortunately my personal VPN is one of the sites I cannot access)

I called to TOT call centre. They actually have a good call centre, which normally resolves problems in fast phase.

This time I was 10th in the line and it took 10 minutes to talk to an representative.

TOT is having problems with overseas connections (which we already knew). Their call centre don't yet have the information what is the root cause, nor when we can expect things to get back to normal. They are working on it.

So we can only wait and use alternative methods to access the internet. DTAC 3G for me.

TOT ADSL seems to work again. Not sure if twitter connection is working as I switched to VPN when it was available.

Yes, I experienced again the same issue in early afternoon yesterday.

At that time, I switched off and on all my networking devices but to no avail, and changing my DNS settings (as suggested above by CNXnamjai) didn't improve the situation either then. But I was able to access Twitter and other websites via CyberGhost (already mentioned in a previous post).

Situation came back to normal (at least for me) later in the afternoon.
