Three Bangkok police officers facing arrest for allegedly extorting Japanese businessman

BANGKOK:-- Three police officers were ordered arrest after they were accused by a Japanese businessman of extorting money from him.

The arrest came after the Japanese man, Kigushi Masato, 36, owner of an entertainment venue in Silom area, complained with Yannawa station police that he paid one million baht to three men whom claimed they are police officers.

He said the men came to his room at the Empire Tower on South Sathorn road on September 5 and told him that his Thai wife and her friend were involved in a drug trafficking ring.

They took him and his wife to a safe house where they demanded him to pay three million baht if he wanted the case to be gone in the air. But he said he had only one million baht to offer, they agreed and set them free.

He later decided to lodge complaint with Yannawa police.

Investigation later revealed the three men are real police officers. They are Pol Lt Col Pongtawat Kongsua, a general staff officer attached to Metropolitan Police Division 6, Pol Lt Kritpakon Niemson, a Crime Suppression Division officer, and Pol Sgt Maj Wirasak Paosu at Phra Khanong police station.

Yannawa police later sought court warrant for their arrest which was granted last week.

I guess the non-active positions are nearly all filled. What are the odds the million baht and the japanese never see each other again. Rewards must be paid for excellent police work.

Ahhhh, yes, the outstanding reputation of the BIB on full display. whistling.gif

And there are some on TV who actually believe the BIB did a good job on the KT B2 murder investigation and they arrested the right people

"Yannawa police later sought court warrant for their arrest which was granted last week."

And.....

a. the men were arrested

b. the men were requested to turn themselves in

c. the men were last seen at the Malaysian border

d. a reenactment of the transfer of a brick of cash worth 1 million baht is being staged tomorrow

e. a red shirt leader known as "El Guapo" is being questioned about ties to the Japanese businessman

In the time-space continuum of Thai law enforcement, everything is possible, simultaneously.

Maybe Somyot should be held accountable? Perhaps detain him before he runs off to Poipet with ill-gotten gains from this kind of racket. One thing can be said for Somyot, he really turned the RTP into a major profit center, and as the CEO, he certainly did well in his last year of government service.

Someone needs to offer a bounty on the right ear off of every police officer turned to offical payout bank. A offer of a couple thousand per should get the ball rolling and the cops running, resigning or just disappearing. any thing would be an improvement on what we have now as protectors of the general public.

When the hell are reforms to the Thai Police Force going to start. Its just a organisation of criminals! Maybe, beetr to simply abolish the whole police force and instead let the army takes it place.

And if there's no actual arrest and on from there the story will be lost in the news cycle.

Just like inspector Clouseau (Peter Sellers) in The Pink Panther thought, perhaps the wife is very frugal with the housekeeping money.

Pol Lt Kritpakon Niemson, a Crime Suppression Division officer

I wonder if this muppet even sees the irony in his police title.

Not even remotely likely. Thais (especially Thai BIB) do not do Irony very well. Plenty of evidence on that topic lately, in fact as recently as yesterday with the second reward payment. Too complicated for simple cash based minds.

"cashed-based minds," thanks for that one.
