Border run poipet/aranyapradet

Recommended Posts

Hi all, i would just like an update on what the current situation is on thai immigration letting people do border hops to obtain new visas/entries.

Im currently on a tourist visa with a 30 day extension which is about to expire and would like to activate my 2nd entry via poipet and was hoping if someone could clarify the immigration wont turn me away as ive been reading quiet alot recently on this forum that this has been the case with many people via land borders.

Im assuming i shouldnt have a problem as ive got a double entry tourist visa but because of recent events, it would be good to know if someone has done the same thing as what im planning on doing.

Thankyou

You have to pay $30 for a Cambodia visa on arrival or you can apply for a e-visa here: https://www.evisa.gov.kh

If your wife has a passport she will get a 14 day visa exempt entry when she enters Cambodia.

If you are legally married you could get a multiple entry non-o visa in Savannakhet that would allow unlimited 90 day entries for a year.

If there was any problems at the border I would know about it from a reliable source of info, You will not have a problem as long as your visa is still valid for entry.

Update: just went and activated my 2nd entry to my tourist visa and had no issues at all.

What a shithole poipet is on a side note lol. Wouldnt trust a soul in that town.

Thank you for the update. Did you pay 30 USD for the visa, and no more?

I was able to get away with paying only 20 USD (before the increase to 30) on my last visit years ago but saw many other applicants being asked to pay extra tips. I think I'll do another trip there this weekend.

The e-visa is now even more of a rip-off too as they ask another 7 USD plus 3 USD for the credit card processing fee.

Hehe yes Poi Pet is a real-life "wild-west". On my first visit at night whilst eating at a street stall I saw in the distance a guy running and screaming as he was chased by two others with one holding a large knife like a machete. I also recall finding quite a few insects (e.g. mosquitos) in my soup in another restaurant, wondering whether they were actually part of the recipe. I guess the place hasn't developed much over the years, apart from the casino infrastructure. It could be an amazing place for a sociology academic to write a book about.
