So, drink at home, dude! What's your problem?

OP has also a thread going in the Marriage & Divorce sub forum. There, his worries seem to concentrate on the "sin sod" issue. Here. he is worried about the opening hours of bars.

Surely, he will make for a nice husband.

Cheers.

hahaha.... but im not getting married anytime soon.

I am a person in my 20's who likes to drink beer past midnight, so what?

surely, no married or otherwise taken thai men or western go to bars, right?

April is the worst month to be here. Police presence is 5X, driving is pure insanity. Go for it.

It's also SongKran, but I guess this festival is not worth a visit...?

It's by FAR the most worthy time to visit.

If I could only spend one week in Thailand, it'd be April 10-17.

That is if you enjoy people throwing ice cold water over you, for four days .

Its by FAR the worst time to visit ( unless youre an overgrown schoolkid)

If I could only spend one week out of Thailand it d be April 10-17.

Stupid and ridiculous time to be here.

If you notice the difference then it means you didn't drink enough yet. Ice water is a great indicator.

No pretties at home, dude! Big problem.

My 20's are a distant memory and I haven't the energy to dance all night, but I still like my beer with eye-candy, and I sometimes like to stay out late.

I wonder how many of the people who hate Song Kran are the same ones who complained about Halloween parties and praised the early bar closures.

Nope . I probablly would enjoy it bit if it was just for one afternoon , but four days is just too much .

agreed...and it seems to last more like a week. Very difficult to get stuff done.

And honestly, some foreigners act awfully around Songkran, they spray people in the head, they use overpowered water guns that leave marks, they continue long into the night with no way to signal them that you are not partaking in “the fun” (even outside entertainment zones during nighttime).

If the foreigners who fall into the above category are the tourists that we lose by closing the bars at midnight, then by all means, please keep it up, and there is a chance that I’ll be in Thailand for Songkran.

If youre getting at me Bruce, you havent been reading the threads properly. Theres a theme here. I dont like Songkran ( people behaving stupidly as others have agreed and causing gridlocked traffic for several stupid days) I m not a fan of Halloween ( a non existent event created in the USA for purely marketting reasons) but on bar closures, if you dont know where I stand on this by now then either you cant read or youre incapable of digesting the written word, I have been, and remain, one of the leading proponents of the dignity and the human right for an adult person to basically choose when to go home and not being in effect sent home by a cop at 11.30 !!

OK now? Get it now? Oh good !!

Ironically, and to nudge us back on topic, the same people that have it in for the bars are also the ones wanting to crack down on Songkran.

Specifically the partying, drinking and lewdness.

The very core elements of Songkran.

Agreed.. I can enjoy a day..

Samui is ideal that way.. once big day (a tiny bit of bled over each side but very mild) and done.

Not true,

I hate Songkran, idiots chucking dirty moat water over me, when I'm driving around town on a scooter, is not my idea of fun.

I love hookers, and they are found in bars, not bothered about drinking myself, but happy to buy them drinks while they rub against me.

Halloween, hookers in bars wearing sexy outfits, rubbing themselves against me, yep, I was in Loy Krow for Halloween.

Loi Kratong, I like fireworks, happy to throw them around and fly Khom Loys ..... not allowed this year .... shame.

Christmas, hookers in bars wearing sexy Santa outfits, it's all good.

A little touchy, aren't you?

This may be a blow to your ego, but no, I wasn't thinking about you when I posted the above.

My comment was a general one about all those who object to any deviation from a predictable, well-regulated routine. Songkran, and other major holidays, does disrupt many people's routines, but unless you live or work in the thick of the activities it's easy to avoid the water throwing.

Halloween evolved from a fun day for the kids into a fun day for adults when those kids grew up. More important, it's an excuse for a party. If the English established a tradition of partying on Guy Fawkes Day I would happily participate, even though all I know about Guy Fawkes is that he failed to blow up Parliament but succeeded in establishing a popular line of face masks.

If I was thinking of anyone in particular it was of a staunch defender of bar closings. On that topic we seem to agree.

Although no one has either said that Songkran should be cracked down upon or supported the crack down on bar opening times .

I simply do not enjoy either throwing water over people or them throwing water over me for four continuous days , although I may enjoy it if it were for just one afternoon, although Im not suggesting Songram should be clamped down upon

In contemporary society, owners should have total flexibility ie up to 24/7.

He is putting his $$$ up. The market will determine for him.

Lewdness? There is hardly any lewdness in the world anymore!

Now we buy trinkets, flammable lanterns and a few beers and are left to ask - "where's the buzz?"

I say bring back lewdness in it's full glory and then sit down as concerned citizens to weigh the merits of such!

^ Was talking about Songkran, not Loy Krathong. ;)

Call me old-fashioned but Loy Krathong is a bit more Buddhist if you will, so I'm not advocating elevated levels of lewdness for it. (Just regular levels will be fine. ;) ). Songkran however is clearly a pre-Buddhist fertility rite, and as such it should be a bit wild.

Ah yes remember back about 2007/08 that all the girls on Loi Kroh would change their g string for their finest Lanna dress.05af191fe02926e74794c4b1948ad3ce.jpg

Great photo! I doubt she is working on LK these days....judging from what I've seen, though, her Mom might be.

Educate them and leave them alone. Life is tough enough for these girls without farangs hitting on them!

With Two-man muttawa teams on motos shuttering everything by 23:30 assume no countdown parties Dec 31.

Thai neighbourhoods will be patrolled by neighbourhood born and raised muttawa who will be driving bicycles and handing out sticky sweet treats to all.

Without the occasional 1,000bht from Mr. White, life would be even tougher for them.

Hmmmmm! Partying, drinking and lewdness! Interesting perspective on traditional La'Na and Thai culture. Curious scholarship!

Not quite sure why someone would pay a girl 1000 bht. a tip perhaps? that is very generous! good karma and the girls truly benefit
