Hi,

I am applying for a tourist visa for my Thai partner. We've been together for one year now ( exception of me going back for 3 mths ). I am thinking of listing her as defacto on the application form. My question is in regard to the Thai language documents stating that she owns land. I read they request documents be accompanied by accredited English translations. Is this true if applying to the Australian embassy in Thailand ? Also, 'certified copies' - who is authorised to certify documents ? I read on here that someone in my position certified them himself and it was accepted.

Thanks

First of all certified copies simply means you sign each page. For example she will supply all her passport pages and sign each one to CERTIFY. As for defacto tick box. I would not do that. She ticks single never married.

If she owns land or bike etc just provide some sort of proof. Take along originals and signed photo copies.

She won't be going to AU embassy. If in bkk she will go tO VSF in trendy building bkk. She can do it online but that visa service is really good and helpful. They try and pick up on any small thing you have overlooked. Check ozthaivia for very helpful advice with all forms etc. Good luck

Yep, no need to refer to her as a defacto.

Better for you to provide a sponsorship letter stating you will cover her financially while on holidays. Also get her travel insurance for the duration. She can also provide evidence of financial stability and evidence to support the fact that she has reason to return to Thailand.

Good luck

Aussie is correct. The main thing imm what to see is compelling reason to return.

My tgf did not have a job but there are many other ways to demonstrate this. If it's your first time you can also do a stat dec at AU embassy. Costs 600baht. Not essential but some recommend. Money in her bank is not a requirement but if you assist her to build it up does not hurt. Always be honest. Omission of some facts is not a lie. Sample letters of invitation and stat dec are provided in the site mentioned earlier

Thanks, she is widowed, so I'll list her as that. We live in krabi, so I was planning to just post everything to the Australia embassy. So just to confirm there is no need to have someone declare ie. translate the chanute for land, just her signature and a statement above to say this is eg. Birth certificate, land ownership. In regards to money, she can't show funds in bank.

Thanks again

OP, keep in mind you can do an online application. Note I have (meaning she) have just received third green light.

Those applications done in person. It's easy as I live bkk. The VSF service is very helpful and is quick. Clerk goes through all your paperwork. On the ,,3 applications there has been one or two small things overlooked. This time it was the identity page of MY passport. Yes silly of me.

Keep in mind if doing it by post you need to use certain post offices. For other people following topic. It takes 9 or 10 days if you apply in person at VSF and have result posted out. They ring you they post. Smooth service.

OP there is a member recently on TV who had done it online.. Might be possible to find that thread and ask for tips. Good luck.
