Petrol tram trials in Phuket Town

The free tram service which started yesterday (Oct 15) was full on every round was enjoyed by everyone who used it.

PHUKET: -- Locals and tourist in Phuket Town yesterday (Oct 15) received a treat from Phuket Provincial Office, the start of a free tram service which will run around the town centre throughout the Vegetarian Festival. It is possible that the service will continue after the festival should it be popular.

The free tram service starts from Queen Sirikit 72nd Anniversary Park and runs along Thalang, Krabi, Satun, Dibuk, Rassada, Phang Nga, Phuket and Montri roads before returning to the park.

Phuket Deputy Mayor, Dr Kosol Tang-Uthai said, “We have received support from a business which makes replica trams to get this service running. This group would like to see a tram service introduced to Phuket.

A west coast tram would be nice too. I think most folks would even be happy to pay. I better wake up and stop dreaming.

Why not have a fleet of "petrol trams" that go all around the island?

You could call them "busses".

It also appears to be a trackless tram! Fantastic, Thailand has invented the worlds first trackless tram (definition of tram:- a rail vehicle which runs on tracks along public highways) Be careful not to confuse this with a petrol driven bus!

Trams run on rails. I see no rails.

Imagine how much nicer the island would be with these instead of the speeding SUVs/trucks/pickups and Death On Wheels motorcycles we have now. One can dream.

I wonder why there is a police officer riding up front????
