I've been doing a little online research on the 2016 Honda Accord. This model will be a mid-cycle refresh with some significant styling changes and equipment upgrades. The one I find most pertinent to the Thai market is the remote engine start feature. This will be offered on the care and allows the car to obviously be started without the driver or anyone else being in the car. This would be great for pre-cooling the car in a roasting climate like Thailand. This feature alone would be enough for me to choose this car over others. (Other then maybe the premium Euro models, I haven't seen this feature on any other cars in the Thai market at this time. )

I have the 2015 Accord and I'm well pleased with it! Opted for the 2ltr based model as the extra features didn't really appeal to me. Very smooth and more than enough power for the 3 of us, Remote start is a handy feature I suppose but an easy and relatively inexpensive modification. Had it on my 1997 Saxo Tour de Corse.

Adaptive cruise control would be another nice feature, and this is avaliable t on current Thai models, but only the highest spec 2.5 litre models. The 2016 models have a new variant where it can bring the vehicle to a full controlled stop if it senses an impending collision.

My sister and also my brother in law, living in Iowa, USA, both have these remote starters and have had for many years. They bought them in a local car accesory shop. I doubt they use them for cooling but rather for heating the car up on an incredibly cold winters day. They can be used on any car, even a Trabant.

Precooling is an absolute waste of energy and pollution. Get in your car, open the windows and drivie a few hundred meters. Then close the windows and turn on your aircondition. That is the fastest and most economical way to cool your oven down.

I find that the "global open" feature on the Everest does the trick nicely - long press the unlock button on the remote, and it opens all 4 windows and the sunroof. It takes only a few moments for the trapped heat to escape the cabin.. And if you really want the heat gone fast, remote open the rear door too ;)

Waste of pollution...I think it's a good use of pollution. As for the energy, I can afford it.

Why do Honda only do black interiors? The hottest and least practical colour for hot climate

They like their interiors to look good even when they are old?

Black has been the new "fashionable" interior color in Thailand for the past 4 years or so. Before that, higher end models were cream/beige with leather, and lower end models gray with fabric. The other fashion variant is a black interior but with dark brown chairs - if you think all black is bad, I suggest you don't look at a Fortuner :P

I myself have no time for the black and dark brown interiors, especially when it makes it even easier to see they've used the lowest grade leather on their chairs.

I'm Buying this car next year but I have a few Questions..

1. Are they selling the sport or the coupe here in Thailand?

2 what will be the price in Baht for the above 2 vehicles if they are?

Thanks

Whatever price they are now add at least 150,000 to get next years price. Buy this year and save money.

I won't be buying this car then.. Tired of all the boring models sold here in Thailand... It's the same with most Brands here.. They never sell the fast exciting cars.. Looks like I'll be sticking with my shitty ford fiesta sport then

They never sell the fast exciting cars..

Sine the mid 2000's to now, there has been a 220HP limit imposed by the excise tax system (going over this got you 111% in taxes).

As of 1st Jan 2016, that arbitrary 220HP threshold is abolished - cars will from then be taxed on CO2 emissions scales. However, the 3,000cc limit still exists (111% tax for larger engines).

Bottom line: cars with < 3,000cc can soon make >220HP without attracting monster taxes - opening up the market for a whole range of supercharged/turbocharged engines that have always been economically unviable. Let's hope that translates into some more exciting models!

The Sport model is only 189HP so it doesn't fit into the 220HP bracket... I'm looking for a car that does 0-60 in around 6-7 seconds which this would have done and not at a silly price of 3 million and upwards.. I can only dream but will hold onto my money until I see a decent model being sold here..

Yeah, there's not much around that meets your criteria, except for the Benz A250, CLA250 and GLA250

Is that a fact? Id heard tax was going up, but if what you say is correct, and i know youre in the know on motoring, then bmw m3s m2s m235i (2979cc), base cayman etc should drop considerably???

Depends on the tax brackets of course but do you forsee cars with real engines being more widely available??

Youve got my hopes up now for a new toy :)

Probably answering my own question here, i assume the ridiculous protectionist duty rates for cars not made here will still apply. So the hope is current manufacturers will make and offer better engine choice.....

Hmmmm :(

Hmmmm sad.png

80% import duties still apply, as does the 3,000cc threshold.

The 220HP threshold definitely has impacted the models we get here - it's a pity they didn't drop the 3,000cc limit and just make it all about CO2 though..

What will be interesting to see is how much of the savings on high HP cars is passed onto the consumer, for example the Benz A 45 AMG currently gets 80% import duty + 111% Excise tax + 7% VAT.

Under the new scheme, that changes to: 80% import duty + 57% excise + 7% VAT, which should make a significant difference to it's 5.7M Baht price tag. If they then go to local assembly like they've done with the CLA and GLA, the 80% import duty disappears as well. I can just see it now, "Handcrafted by Somchai Whatapoon, Mercedes-AMG, Rayong, Thailand" :P

The merc A250 sport looks half decent.. Will wait til the New Year to see the changes in the Tax if any

The A250 will be going up in price... it's CO2 based taxes increase by 5%.

The only cars getting less tax are eco cars, and cars that currently make >220HP and that are less than 3,000cc....

New Honda civic 1.5 Turbo 0-60 in 6.8 seconds is the one.. Will tune it for more power

If we get it in that state of tune.. it's possible TH might get the lower spec 150HP/203Nm version in order to slip into a lower excise tax bracket, and also so it doesn't challenge Accord performance.

Just bought an HRV but if we could get the Civic with Turbo the HRV is history

What about a HRV turbo? :P

Honda have committed to introducing turbo engines across the whole range. They just haven't said exactly when.

A HRV is a great grocery getter. I prefer small, light chassis with big motor. Had a few CRX Si's Civic Si's and an Integra Type R. Best was my Super 7. 900 Lbs and 150 hp but just on racetrack loved kicking ass on the Corvettes
