About 15 minutes ago my wife called me into the living room to watch a Thai PBS news clip covering a conference where doctors, government officials, and members of the public where discussing the pros and cons of the use of medical marijuana in Thailand, often citing the clinics established in various states in the US and the various medical conditions that medical marijuana is used for.

That's a quantum leap for a opiate-paranoid government and medical establishment that are about 50 year behind the West in palliative (pain management) medical care.

Maybe Webfact can dig some more information up on this. It played at about 7:30PM on Thai PBS on channel 13 here in Lamphun province.

Er if it wasnt for the west notably the US and their war(s) on drugs, there would be no need for Thailand to have this debate now

The ones that are catching up is the west, not Thailand, they were forced into their marijuana laws.

There is very good pain management at the major Private hospitals in Thailand, some of which are far better than Western hospitals. It is difficult to get opiate's at government hospitals and smaller ones because of the abuse. Many Farangs come to Thailand to do drugs and abuse the system. It's not just the Thais.

Gone are the days of Thai stick, and while SEA countries are still neck-deep in Nixon's War on Drugs propaganda of nearly 50 years ago, some US states have gone beyond medical cannabis to recreational. But I don't expect to see billboards like this in Thailand any time soon.

Hummm. I don't know the history regarding Marijuana in Thailand. The crackdown happened after or around the Vietnam era. I just don't know. All I know is that Thailand is now worse than anything I've ever encountered in the West regarding drug laws. They need to build more jails seeing that they seem to be infatuated with popping citizens and tourists using after-the-fact piss-tests that are of questionable reliability.

Maybe I need to go visit my family in the US. It's legal in my state. It would be nice to cop a buzz without being paranoid. Hence I don't partake in the LOS. I have no desire to visit the inside of a Thai jail for any reason.

What. The same outfits importing opium and coke to the US. Hi, I'm from Air America here to delivery your shipment to LAX. Nevermind. That's not the DEA. Different 'company'.

My Aunt (in law) has stage three lung cancer. The doctors are <deleted> here and we want to try the medical marijuana route.

Where would the nearest treatment centers be to Thailand.\>? Some people are saying Lao but I see online its not legal.

Any suggestions or anyone who knows of a group in Thailand who can help, please let me know.

Thank you

Nowhere in the region that I know of.

I assume you realize medical marijuana does not cure anything, it is just for symptomatic relief, especially of nausea associated with chemo.

What exactly are the symptoms she is seeking relief from? As I may be able to suggest legal options/meds (pls indicate which meds already tried).

The quality of palliative care is not good in Thailand but there are a few specialists in it who know what they are doing. If in Bangkok Dr. Laksmi at Bangkok Hospital is good.

On a similar vent Cannabis oil has a lot of hype about it in regards to cancer treatment and some promising research behind it as well.

I don't think this is exactly the same thing as medical marijuana which as you state is more to do with managing side effects of chemo.
