22,000 British tourists stranded in Sharm El Sheikh after UK Government ordered flights suspended

LONDON: -- The Egyptian Prime Minister is is currently visiting London. Egypt is showing full flag at the onLONDON: -- going World Travel Market in London at this time.

Resorts from Sharm-El Sheikh had reporting positive developments on the Sinai Islands.

The GM of the Hyatt Resort told eTN in London, the hotel is enjoying good occupancy, including from American guests.

In a statement, Monarch Airline confirmed all flights into and out of Sharm had been cancelled with immediate effect, and said it would work with the government to transport people home. Customers with holidays booked in the near future can arrange for a refund or re-book their flights.

At the same time it becomes more clear, the recent Russian airline crash may have been terror related. Britain today said no to flights from the U.K. to Sharm el Sheikh putting air traffic on hold.

EasyJet has cancelled its flights to and from Sharm El Sheikh today. It said it will keep its flights to and from the resort under review.

British Airways said flights to and from the resort would probably be delayed by 24 hours. Customers are advised to contact the airline.

Egypt should have had extremely strict security, it will cost them dearly.

Security is difficult in a Country riddled with Islamic extremists, it only takes one to infiltrate airport security. At least in the UK we have the sense to keep first generation immigrants away from baggage handling at our airports,,,, hang on. :(

The reports ive heard are that the security at Sharm was plain slack. It was extremely slack back in 2001 when i was allowed a dive knife on board, sounds like it hasnt improved much.

There's very few reasons why a plane suddenly explodes or breaks up in mid air leaving no time for the crew to make a distress call, a bomb would certainly be one of them.

As for the stranded tourists, they could sent by bus to another airport, it's a long journey but it can be done with some organisation.

If I was stuck there, I'd head for Eilat in Israel and get a flight from there.

If they send them to Cairo then it's a much longer journey but it should take lass than a day to do.

First Tunisia. Now Egypt. And Libya, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Yemen, and Saudia Arabia are already no-gos. Where are the English going to go next? Morocco?

The French are already there. My uncle has retired there from Brittany. He loves the ex-pat

life style he lives there. That said a couple of bombings and AK47 attacks and I am sure

there will be a collapse in the European retirement community there.

No where they always used to go Spain (Majorca and so on )

highly recommended are the nudie beaches at the Red Sea in western Saudi Arabia where excellent beers are brewed, delicious single malt is distilled and the bars are open 24/7 whistling.gif
