CF card crashed. Any way to recover RAW files?

Featured Replies

Been out shooting several hundred pics and was in the process of culling on my laptop as I often do using Irfanview.

Only managed a few and suddenly Irfanview hung up and I waited till it became functional again but then I couldn't view any more files.

reinserting CF card causes pop-up msg to say reformat card. Moved CF card to desktop...same same nil joy!

Is there any solution you guys may be aware of? Thanks!

I'd do as little as possible to the card itself to avoid any further data loss. Make a bit-for-bit image of it using something like dd, then attempt to recover the filesystem from that using the appropriate tools for whichever filesystem it's formatted with.

D/loaded Recuva as suggested (freebie version), ran it but it didn't work for me. Came back with 'Unable to determine file system type'. Thanks MJCM.

Wouldn't know where to start with Soi Biker's suggestion. Thanks anyway.

It could be the card reader acting up, perhaps worth trying another reader!
