Madgee Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 Hi Guys, I'll shortly be attending a seminar in a hotel in Soi 5 for a few days. Having no knowledge of BKK whatsoever, I would like to find a place to enjoy a good Indian style curry within walking distance of the hotel. Many thanks in advance.
HidyHo Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 soi means side street of a main road. There are thousands of "soi 5" in BKK.
Madgee Posted November 14, 2015 Author Posted November 14, 2015 OK, The Royal Benja Hotel, Khlong Tan Nuea, Watthana, Bangkok 10110 Many thanks.

Sukhumvit might be the centre of your world, but it's not necessarily so for everyone else. Dosa King is pretty good, too.
smokie36 Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 If your budget is extremely elastic you could try Charcoal at Fraser Suites further up Soi 11....the food there is fantastic but I've only ever been when they have a Sunday buffet for 600ish Baht. Other times its more that price per item.
Alration Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 Depends what you mean by Indian style, you could get an "Indian style" curry at the Foodland restaurant in Soi 5, or you could go to the Indian restaurant on Sukhumvit just before Soi 7 and, I imagine, get a real Indian curry. There's an Indian just before Foodland on the opposite side, one on the corner of Soi 8 also, and one near Soi 11/1 and at least two in Soi 13. That area is overrun with them as it is overrun with...never mind. Can't personally recommend any of them as I wouldn't touch any of them with a barge pole, both figuratively and literally.
Madgee Posted November 14, 2015 Author Posted November 14, 2015 Thanks for the info guys, much appreciated.
Madgee Posted November 14, 2015 Author Posted November 14, 2015 Just had a walk around the area using 'google street view' and with so many Indian restaurants within a few hundred metres I'm going to be spoilt for choice.

Not the centre of my world either, seeing as I live about 150 miles away, but as a general rule when a post states Soi ?? without specifying an area it means Sukhumvit. I have difficulty believing that youhave never noticed this.
blackcab Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Soi 4. A very different experience depending on whether you go to Sukhumvit or Silom. Sometimes it's good not to assume where someone is talking about.
