PHUKET: -- Vice Governor Chokdee Amornwat announced the designation of the island’s first three "virgin beaches" last week, after revealing the plan to have such beaches to the public on October 31 (story here).

Freedom Beach, Nui Beach and Lay Pang Beach were all named by Vice Governor Chokdee as beaches that will soon return to their natural state.

“There are some beaches that will not have a 10 per cent zone, which means that there will be nothing there – no umbrellas, no businesses, nothing. All 100 per cent natural,” V/Gov Chokdee told the Phuket Gazette.

85% of TVF members disappointed to learn that "virgin beaches" doesn't mean "beaches full of virgins". Massive migration to those "virgin beaches" cancelled.

Also - in before the first people whine that those beaches don't have all the annoying vendors pestering them like they whine about on all the other beaches. I can't really imagine any beaches full of tourists where there won't be any vendors. It'll be just a matter of time before they start to creep in.

Have they removed the gun slinging mafia thugs, and their clubhouse, from Nui Beach yet?

Have they removed the thugs who demand entrance fees with menace for Freedom Beach?

Have the Billions of baht land frauds for land adjacent to Freedom Beach been sorted yet?

Have all the restaurants on Lay Pang Beach been demolished yet?

A long way to go before the always misused word "virgin" applies to these places.

The Phuket virgin that has caught my eye, lost interests after ' beaches '

Would it be possible for the authorities to have a small card printed, in Thai signed by Vice Governor Chokdee Amornwat, with the words:

"This is a virgin beach, you're not supposed to be here, please leave".

These could be made available to visitors for them to present to the encroachers when they make their appearance.

Also designate a hot line number so that the encroachment can be reported immediately.

Or maybe the authorities will just come up with a "special" licence system? gigglem.gif

Cant believe there is anything that constitutes a "virgin" in Phuket!

English and many other countries including I'm sure where you hail from!

Sounds to me like they are going to be naturist beaches. No clothes, either.

All this means is that there are no local government scamming on these beaches.

Section 1304 of Thailand's Civil and Commercial Code states that the domain of the public state includes state property reserved for the public interest or for common benefit of the population, which includes beaches!

Problem is, these "virgin" beaches will have no one to keep them clean and tidy (which is one of the jobs of the beach vendors - or so we are led to believe).

Cant believe there is anything that constitutes a "virgin" in Phuket!

Surely you have met "Nui" the well known Phuket virgin?
