Runners think twice about Thailand after Bangkok half-marathon gaffe

Some foreign runners were shocked to find that they were attacked by dogs along the course.

Good one. Welcome to Thailand.

"Traffic control is another matter of concern in Thailand. Many runners along Thai marathon courses are instructed by police to stop for traffic. This is unheard of anywhere else in any major city marathon." ---

It's so ridculous it's laughable !

Why do Bangkokians have to stop for runners who came from abroad to run in their busy city?

Then a month later we have to wait for cyclists who come from all over the country. We have enough traffic jam allready on daily basis.

jesus everyone they screwed up end of story until the next load organisational manure

It's a lot more than a screw up. If you can't get a 21 km race to end after 21 km it is a sign of utter incompetence, a total disregard for the runners and an unsuitability to run any races anywhere ever again.

That was an incredible article! But, unfortunately, nothing in there is surprising. At all. Its expected in fact.

The same State Department that found it impossible to rescue a few Americans at Benghazi now says it will rescue 200,000 Muslims.

Well, it takes two years to vet a refugee, so they have time. They didn't have two years to organize transportation at Benghazi.

Simple - if a city decides to hold an event like a marathon or a bike ride/race, they close the streets and do it right, or don't hold it. However, don't expect runners like myself to show up to some half baked, poorly organized race where the support is missing, safety is an issue, and it is apparent the organizers have no clue. We have plenty of other race options.

I think Thais should focus on bicycling instead of running , bike for mum and bike for dad were successfull , ask a Thai to run in this heat and he will think of you as a crazy person.

Marathons are complicated. You have to run in a circle and come back to where you started. And usually, there's no drinking of Khao Lao or fireworks involved???

Those crazy Farang sports!

You should really be asking why bother having a running event if they are not even stopping the traffic? And these are usually on Sundays anyway.

If they can't do that, then they ain't capable of running any sporting event at all.

Unusual indeed for people to not like getting more than they paid for or expected. Ordinarily more is better. Soi dogs are needed to keep the soi cats at bay.
