Thalang scooter snatch thief scores smartphone, cash in early morning incident

PHUKET: Thalang Police have filed yet another report of a scooter-powered snatch thief that made away with valuables.

At 5am today (November 29) Pol Lt Col Sanich Nukong of Thalang Police filed a complaint about a bag-snatching incident on Thepkrasattri Rd, about 200 meters from Makro Thalang.

Mr Somkiet Thongsuk, 23, reported that he was driving his sky blue and white Honda Scooby scooter (with Phang Nga plates), with two girls – Ms Mawadee Yo-na and Ms Araya Pana – riding pillion.

Mr Somkiet and Ms Mawadee told police they had just visited a relative at Vachira Phuket Hospital and were on their way home, when a man on a purple Yamaha Fino scooter drove up from behind, and snatched a brown bag carried by Ms Mawadee.

And I thought Scooters are made for two passengers only....

Did I read this correctly? The victim is a mere 23 years old yet has achieved the rank of Police Lt Col already?

Obviously an individual of exceptional talents nor to mention exceptional wealth to have " earnt" such promotion so early in his career.
