When did True Move change the phone credit policy?

Went to make a call today and got a message (in Thai) saying I needed to top up my phone. I thought that was strange because I had 250 baht in there a month ago and had made very few calls. Happened to be in Tesco Lotus at the time so called into the True shop and asked a very helpful young lady why I needed to top up my phone. She explained that the top up was only good for one month before it expired, meaning you lose whatever money is in the phone! Apparently you can pay a little more and get 90 days before it expires. In the 6 years I've been here, after a top-up I always got the message that the money was good for 12 months from the time the phone was topped up. I couldn't find out when the policy had changed, and if I was advised by SMS it was in Thai and I would have deleted it. How the hell am I going to remember to use up whatever I have on my phone before the period expires?

There is an option where you can extend the expiry date for True.

I found out that if you use the 7/11 top-up machines you can increase by 30 days for a 10 baht top up, so do that 12 times (120 baht) and you will have 12 months before expiry.

With True extension option, you have an option to extend from 30 days up to one year.

Can you explain how that works.

Difficult! I have had it for a while.

Telephone True?

As advised previously, you can extend the expiry time for a small fee. Saves going to 7-11.

You can also use ISD by using a prefix. I then dumped SKYPE.

giddyup, you can request that a topic be closed by clicking the 'Report' button from within your topic.

Oh, and ThaiVisa Sponsor Mobile TopUp may also list alternative methods of Extending Validity, in addition to their Top Up Methods.

Adding a couple more recent 'extend validity' topic links that may be specific to True Corp users (TrueMove, TrueMove H) that may hold some helpful wisdom:

Assuming you have credit, from your phone dial *934*30# to extend your validity by 30 days. It costs 3B. If you dont have credit of course you will need to buy some somewhere and doing so will give you at least 30 days more validity anyway. Details on the True website.

To extend for more than 30 days just change the number in the sequence: *934*180# gives you 180 days, for example. The cost per 30 days is the same and you must use exact multiples of 30. All multiples may not work and I think the total possible is 360.

As far as I know you cannot extend validity this way until your SIM is at least 60 days old.

If you are in Thailand True will send you an SMS a few days before your validity expires inviting you to use the above code to extend validity.

No idea how any of that works outside of Thailand: probably not at all.

I dont think that validity will ever be reduced from something you have already acquired, so you should be fine.

You may fall foul of the SIM registration rules though. Have you registered your SIM (presented your passport)? If not your number may be blocked from making calls until you do so.
