Govt unveils New Year gift projects for farmers

BANGKOK, 14 December 2015 (NNT) – The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives (MOAC) has unveiled three campaigns to help farmers and low income persons as a 2016 New Year gift.

The Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives Gen Chatchai Sarikulya has revealed that the MOAC has adopted the government’s policy to stimulate economic activities during the New Year holidays, and has come up with three campaigns to help farmers and low-income persons.

The first campaign is aimed at reducing the household spending for farmers, such as the exception of rental fees for the land on lease from the Agricultural Land Reform Office with the payment due in the 2016 fiscal year in 40 provinces, the discount for land purchase and rent interest rates from 4 to 1 percent, and the resupply of aquatic animals in public water sources for the public to consume.

The second campaign is the prevention of diseases in animals that can be contracted in humans, with pets’ health check-up and vaccination services provided by the government free of charge.

The third campaign is the opening of ecotourism attractions free of charge, including the Thai-Denmark Cow Farm in Sara Buri, the agriculture museum honouring His Majesty the King, the aquatic animals museums of the Department of Fisheries, the highland research and development center in Chiang Rai, the royal agricultural research center in Chiang Mai, as well as discounts for leisure attractions in the Royal Irrigation Department such as the Pa Sak Cholasit Dam.

The MOAC’s New Year Gift campaigns will run from 28 December 2015 until 15 January 2016.

All good ideas to help these people but will it work. They will restock the waterways and then overnight they will all be netted out again, unfortunately there are those that put their needs above others if it means making money. Hopefully many will benefit though from this gesture.

I'm so used to seeing "Graft" in the headlines I misread this one as "Govt unveils New Year graft projects for farmers"

It really is sad.

"...unfortunately there are those that put their needs above others if it means making money...."

Nice point and unfortunately many of the past leaders of this country are the actual role models for "...unfortunately there are those that put their needs above others if it means making money...."

When we get some capable and sincere politicians then and only then will we see good examples which hopefully will encourage better attitudes and behaviors overall.

"Here you are plebs, your new year gift from Uncle Too. Free admission to the Thai-Denmark Cow Farm in Saraburi."

OMG! Thanks so much! Just what we always wanted!

If that doesn't return happiness to the Thai people, then I don't know what will.

'New Year' gift? why not help as part of good governance? these farmers are the backbone of this country and are constantly manipulated by the powerful elite 'down South'.

Crackdown on the money lenders, give very cheap government loans and decent health care and education rather than grand propaganda gestures for Friday evening consumption.

Put this with the interest of GMO technology, then one can really worry. GMO technology is being banned by many countries.

Gee.... lemme tink..... Where can a sicko multi-billion (illuminati) mega-corporation spread their afflictions and sickness???? Lobbyists must be very busy!

And the farmers in the North and North-East have never been manipulated?

Unfortunately for you, putting your comment in bold does not lend it any more gravitas or integrity. On the contrary, it shows your desperation in clinging to your sinking ship. Meanwhile, the treacley nonsense of farmers being "devoted" to the PM makes you come across as an exaggerating fantasist, such as many desperate people are.

Uh, another one with no humour. Probably Pom? Sarcasm is an unknown word to you. Anyway I wish you Merry Christmas!

Just more diversion.

Strange empty gestures all.

Why not government provided mills? Why not free seed and alternative crop seed?

Take two guesses--first one doesn't count.
