Hi, I know this topic has been covered before but may I ask again in relation to my specific case for my peace of mind.

I have been working for the Thailand branch of a small international software company for over three years. I met my wife there and we have been together for over two years. We officially got married in August 2006.

I resigned from my job at the same time and am now here on a one year dependent visa. My wife is now working for a larger international software company in Bangkok. We wish to apply for a settlement visa.

My problem is that I don’t have a job in the UK (because I have been working here and am reluctant to go back beforehand to secure employment before applying) but do have almost 20,000 pounds in UK accounts (and Thai salary evidence) and also, parents who are willing to provide accommodation and support.

My wife has previously been granted a tourist visa to the UK.

My question is what chance does my wife have of getting a settlement visa under these circumstances?

Any advice/help/answers would be greatly appreciated – we’re already feeling stressed and we haven’t even started to apply yet!

PS. Is the fact that my wife owns a couple of properties in Thailand relevant to the application; if so, does it help/hinder?

I wouldn't fret. When considering a settlement application, the visa officer is obliged to consider the ease with with either the applicant or spouse can find work in the UK. Notwithstanding this, you have sufficient funds to tide you over until such a time as either of you (or both) has employment. I would, however, obtain a letter from your parents which confirms their willingness to maintain and accommodate you, and provide evidence of their ability to do so.

Scouse.
