CCCIF holds briefing on Thailand's anti-IUU fishing efforts

BANGKOK, 16 December 2015 (NNT) - The Command Center to Combat Illegal Fishing (CCCIF) has held a briefing on its progress to tackle illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Navy Admiral Na Areenich, in his capacity as Commander of the CCCIF, chaired the meeting to review the center's progress.

Thailand has been working with third-party nations to regulate the fishing industry, assign fisheries observers to commercial vessels, and aiding Thai fishers detained in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, the Judge Advocate General of the Royal Thai Navy reported on the ongoing work of the Thailand Maritime Enforcement Coordinating Center to pursue cases related to illegal labor and human trafficking.

Previously, the Department of Fisheries was instructed to deliver a report to the European Commission's Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, regarding Thailand's efforts to tackle IUU fishing.

The Department of Fisheries is now no longer involved in reporting? whistling.gif

Is the government still paying unregistered fleets as compensation for not being able to fish?
