Security stepped up in Yala

YALA: -- Police, troops and provincial officials in Yala have stepped up security after an intelligence agency learned that insurgents have brought in a lot of explosive devices for launching more terror attacks, a source said.

The three security agencies will remain on special alert until New Year Eve, the source said.

As part of the stepped-up security, Betong district chief Damrong Disakul ordered all security forces in the district to step up checking of vehicles that come in and leave the district.

Prayut's government has shown little real concern on negotiating peace with the insurgents, so it might actually welcome more violence as a diversion to its lack of progress.
