I'm always amazed that people get so excited by something as mundane as a pie.

If I never ate a pie again in my life I doubt I'd miss it.... actually I know I wouldn't as I've not eaten one in years.

I've talked to various Aussies about pies over the years and one thing they do there that they also do in some other parts of the world ... pie and peas ... a pie float!

Do they do pie floats?

Love Aussie meat pies.

l believe a couple of Aussies are also now making pies in California & they are selling like hot cakes……er make that like hot pies!

come on mr. mod he shouldnt be allowed to post about pies just before dinner.licklips.giflicklips.giflicklips.gif

Mate, I can tell you that I'm now suffering the consequences of letting my eyes be bigger than my belly. Four pies was probably two to many at one sitting.

I reckon I've taken one for the team, but by god it was worth it!! facepalm.gif

How much did they cost ? .

Maybe some Australian pies are nice but there's a lot of really nasty, disgusting pies produced in Australia too - not worthy to be called food.

IMO "Australian" used in front of "pies" doesn't inspire confidence.

I think I'd prefer a pimped out more healthy version of Aussie pies rather than authentic ones which sort of have a dog food tinge about them. I've had both kinds.

How many have you actually tried?

More than enough to know the crap pies in Australia far outnumber the good ones.

Lots of beer and tomato sauce is required to get most down.

So true

The majority of pies have left over left overs in them.

Utter garbage.

However there are some good ones out there but you have to hunt high and low to find them in Australia.

The best pies I have had were when I was working in Napier in NZ a couple of years back.

Real beef, perfect pastry. Their sausage rolls were great too.

Don't much like the look of the cart that runs around Pattaya with pies and sausage rolls. They look pretty toxic. British I think.

Aussies haven't offered much to the culinary food world

But we sure can do a damn good pie

The dessert is believed to have been created in honour of the dancer either during or after one of her tours to Australia and New Zealand in the 1920s

I gave you a fair assessment of an Australian pie. That's positive, isn't it?
