Ben Carson's campaign chairman decries 'social engineering' with gays, women in military

There's a word for someone who believes such things as the pyramids were used to store grain and that the theory of evolution is the work of the devil. That word is "crank." The evidence is overwhelming that Ben Carson is a crank.

My opinion is that leadership promotes unity not divisiveness.

Then we can agree that neither Carson nor Obama possess leadership qualities because our people have become even more divided since 2009.

Obama's stated belief during the 2008 campaign was that marriage is between a man and a woman. HIS stated belief, not that of his campaign chairman. Of course, after he got elected he changed his position. (That is a lesson for some of you...candidates say all kinds of crap to get that primary vote then change their mind after getting elected. They always have, always will)

Both Carson and Obama went to Ivy League schools, one through studying hard, one through Affirmative Action, one graduated school to became one of the world's top brain surgeons, the other parlayed his degree to become a community organizer.

Obama wasn't presidential material in 2008 but the country got swept up in his rhetoric and the romantic idea of electing a good-looking, well-spoken half-black guy from a middle class white family in Hawaii.

Carson doesn't have a chance to become president but as historic as Obama's 2008 election was, it would be FANTASTIC to elect a black guy descended from slaves, from a poor, single parent home, who through his own hard work rose to the top of a profession where intelligence & skill are central and not just popularity & teleprompter reading.

At least you admit that Carson does not have leadership qualities. The rest of your rubbish, with its hints of homophobia and its blatant racism is disgusting. Its obvious ideological bias is boring.

Obama will leave his 2nd term in office with an historical legacy. Your puerile attacks on his home life, schooling and career is just the bitterness of a non entity commenting on things greater than himself. Nothing to say on topic. So, relax. Enjoy the beer bars. Pay your taxes. Cast your single vote in November but leave the discussion to the grown ups.

Naw, I don't think Carson is ready to become President. Leadership qualities or not. His expertise has been laser-focused on one important area - as it should have been considering what it was. We have already learned what a disaster it is to have a President who requires one-the-job training in so many areas.

Thank you for proving once again that any criticism of Obama...is Racism!! Obama himself was against gay marriage so does that make him homophobic? I have never had a problem with gays getting married so I know I'm not.

If you think Obama's election was historical because of his skin color (and it obviously was), then you also know that it would have been more historical if he actually had been descended from slaves. To imply that it hints of racism for believing that is beyond ridiculous. Imagine how powerful it would be for a newly-elected president to be able to claim while speaking from the White House Rose Garden that his "...ancestors helped build this house as slave labor and now their descendant is head of the house and country." Wow.

Carson could have been a great choice, if his political experience extended beyond giving speeches at dinners and he knew a lot more about the world outside the operating room.

Your references to Obama's miscegeny is not a hint of racism. It is actual racism. You double down on this line by your hideous references to slavery and your fantasy scenarios. Attacking the President for not being descended from slaves. Slavery was not a construct design for your fantasy theatrics.

What Obama said about LGBT issues in 2008 and what he did as President of the United States has entirely no relevance to Carson's outrageously offensive comments about human sexuality and prisons.

I made certain statements to another poster. I said Carson was no leader. I said Carson had no concept of world affairs. I said Carson was divisive. You say that Carson would be a great President if he had more political experience i.e. leadership and new a lot more about the world. I find the idea of you saying exactly what I have stated in the attempted rebuttal of what have have stated not merely incongruous, but more than a little ridiculous. It's like saying Hilary Clinton would make a great male President if she'd been born a man. Or Donald Trump would have made a great burlesque dancer if he'd been born a woman. You've heard the one about what if the moon was made of cheese?

Defining people and their actions by race is racism. Calling this out is not shutting down discussion. It is identifying illogical bigotry and conclusions based on assumed stereotypes. Pointing this out is a way of forcing respectfulness back into the conversation. Getting defensive about this is a sure signal of weakness and the inability to rise beyond ones acquired chauvinism.

I only call out people for lying when I can prove it. You have contributed mostly a bunch of ill-informed OPINIONS to this thread, so can't really call them lies. One of them is saying that I am a "Ben Carson booster", which I certainly am not.

I think he is a great man with no political experience and I think he needs some before running for president. My favorite candidate is Marco Rubio so far. He is very intelligent, understands the issues and is charismatic. I agree with most of his positions. He also makes Hillary look very OLD.

What opinions? Ill-informed or otherwise? I asked on topic questions to which you continue to deflect into personal attack and irrelevancies. The fact that Carson's campaign Chairman is advocating action on social issues that have divided society and disenfranchised a significant number of people from equal treatment under the law for so long says a lot about Carson and his lack of leadership. The fact that his response to defecting these issues is to claim that he will study them and choose the right answer. All of these facts are verifiable. Not my opinion at all. My opinion is that leadership promotes unity not divisiveness. Carson and the crowd that he has collected around him in this embarrassment to the American political process deserve all the attacks they are receiving with the resultant drop in his poll numbers and his eventual withdrawal from this race. His separation of conjoined twins, his technical knowledge or anything else about him relating to intelligence or cleverness or similar is entirely irrelevant in the face of his divisive and bigoted agenda. That, for the avoidance of doubt, is my opinion.

Some on here don't like Trump because he doesn't think before speaking and they also don't like Carson because he likes to think about things before speaking. There's no pleasing some people.

Why are they even bothering about Carson, there is almost no possibility he'll be selected?

Attack, what attack? No attack was made. I think it's racist that most lefties define Obama as black when he's 50% white. Denying his true ethnicity is just racist against whites.

It's also illogical to think Obama has any idea of what it is like to be a black man in the US, as he grew up outside the mainland US as a child of a solo white parent and has always been middle class. He is a white man inside with a black skin.

You have been down there with me Charles. I usually leave it up to the respondent whether to take the high road or the low road and am happy to reciprocate.

By your definition of black there would be virtually no black people in America since most have white ancestors. It's easy enough to see if you just compare the way American black people look to African black people. If you're treated like a black person, then you're a black person. Maybe in another part of the world if your skin color was cafe au lait you would be treated as a white person. But I don't know where that is.

Has Obama been treated as a black man? He grew up in a white household in Indonesia and Hawaii, went to Harvard law school and was a professor at Chicago Law school. Doesn't seem a particularly "black" upbringing to me.

I said he was 50% black, not that he wasn't black at all. To deny his white ethnicity is to say he is all black, which he isn't.

BTW, we ALL come from Africa, so I guess we're all black.

He graduated from Yale University. The Library of Congress selected Carson as one of its "Living Legends." and the following year, CNN and Time magazine named Carson as one of the nation's 20 foremost physicians and scientists. Carson has received a legion of honorary doctorate degrees and accolades, and has sat on the boards of numerous business and education boards. No matter ones politics, an honest person would concede that he is clever indeed.

Like the line from Spinal Tap "There's a fine line between clever and stupid". He should stick to his day job. A great surgeon can still be an idiot in areas outside his area of expertise, as Dr Carson has demonstrated time and again

What do you mean by treated as a black man? That he's been astoundingly successful? You mean they gave him a pass an treated him as an honorary whtie man? So are you saying that black people are commonly discrimated against and that Obama was an exception? Who has time to disentagle your comment.. As for the 50% ethinicity busniess. To Americans, he looks black. Or do you hear Americans commonly referring to octaroons and mulattos? What's more, as I pointed out, most American blacks are of mixed race. Overwhelmingly they're still considered black by white people and by themselves. And as for we all come from Africa. Not only that.We all come from lemurlike primate ancestors. Therefore we're all lemurs, I guess.

Getting back to the OP, here again this election season is bringing back memories of George Wallace's 1968 run. Carson is giving us a new Curtis LeMay.

Great entertainment, this stuff.

I asked the question, it is you that is reading meaning that isn't there, and saying what I didn't say. Was he discriminated against? That was the point of my question. Was he stopped and frisked, did he have police cars turning up when he tried to enter his own house, was he stopped from driving his own car?

Ie, did he have what is reportedly a typical black experience in mainland America? Obviously he didn't in Indonesia and Hawaii.

What I want to know, is has he experience of being treated badly simply because of skin colour, BEFORE he ran for president?
