Has anyone been to koh chang? if so could you tell me how's the nightlife. ( bars etc) compared to places like Samui, phuket. i am thinking of popping over there for a change this winter, however i will be on my own and dont fancy spending the whole time in total isolation.

Not remotely as developed as Samui and Phuket (Miami with Thai food).

Its still an undeveloped island compared to those two but things are happening as big money moves in to rape it.

There are a few bars at White Sand Beach where there is a "town" along the main road.

If you are looking for a companion you might want to consider BYO.

Livemusicplaces White Sands:

Oodies Place - for blues - on the other side (ie not the beachside) of the beachstreet.

On the beach: Tantawan - laid back-place and Sabay Bar for party, party.

Koh Chang actually have pretty good nightlife if you like it easygoing, friendly and not the sextourism-stuff.

Agree with previous poster.

I wouldnt call it undeveloped - a place that has 7-11, hotels for 60 000 baht per night and is run over with hiso Thai SUVs on weekends and holidays is hardly undeveloped - not in my book anyway.

I'd say Samui, Pattaya and Phuket are overdeveloped instead. But it all depends which corner you are looking from of course.

The prostitution scene is not so big, as has been mentioned there are a few girlie bars on White Sand beach. Plenty of Pattaya farang bring their company there, though.

The developers definitely have their sights on turning Koh Chang into the next big tourist or eco-tourist destination but at present it is still a pretty laid back area compared to Phuket. There are some nice beaches and several beautiful quiet stretches of sand on the island.

As posters said previously, they have a limited bar scene. I was told by one of the girls that many of the bar girls go there to work when they get too old or worn to keep up with the competition in Pattaya or BKK. That was also pretty much my observation so I think BYO is a better way to go.

Great place to visit but more than a week or two is enough for me.
