Pricing for 2nd 3rd generation Apple TV or similar AirPlay device?

Featured Replies

Want to AirPlay things like YouTube and movie to HDMI TV.

2nd Generation is very difficult to find as it can be jail broken

The 3th Generation is priced at around 3600 THB

The 4th Generation is priced for the 32 GB at around 8500 THB and for the 64 GB 10.500 THB.

The 4th generation has a separate app store

I bought a version 3 yesterday, and indeed 3,600 baht. Bought it to stream Netflix, but pleasantly surprised at the other capabilities. It still won't natively play some video formats, but used the Air Video app on my phone and it will pick up media from my computer and stream through the Apple TV using Air Play, doing any required conversion on the fly. Very impressive. Other Air Play apps on the phone/tablet, such as YouTube, stream through Apple TV.

Which netflix? Are you able to stream US programming here in Thailand? Even with ToT IP address?

Yes.

I use something called Unlocator. You put their provided DNS addresses in your device (can you put them in your router, or directly on the Apple TV, they have very clear instructions what to do); and then via your account page in your browser you can specify which Netflix region you want.

Then it just works! Even slicker, should I wish for some reason to use the Thailand Netflix, I can use my iPhone (which does not have a changed DNS) to access Thailand Netflix and then AirPlay through the Apple TV.

Apple TV is notorious for not playing all video formats, but I use an App called Air Video which can pick up movies I have on my Mac computer and stream them to the Apple TV, converting them as required as it plays; completely seamless.

YouTube is an App on the Apple TV and works very well. But searching is easier on the phone, so I use You Tube on that and then AirPlay it through the Apple TV.

Much more impressed with the little box than I thought I would be!

There is also Airparrot (http://www.airsquirrels.com/airparrot/) which Mirrors your PC Screen (Mac, Windows and Chrome OS) and thus you can use VLC (or another player) to play your movies.

I used to use this with my Apple TV's (I have 2) but I found it a bit of a hassle so I bought a small NUC (with wireless keyboard) and connect that to my TV when I watch a movie which AppleTV doesn't support. (An Android box could do the same thing)

A feature I like about these AppleTV is that when you play music via iTunes you can play the sound (simultaneous) through your PC and ALL of your AppleTV's so you can hear your music in all your rooms. I have no idea if that is also possible with movies (never tried to be honest)
