Just for fun biggrin.png

Just some of the minor incidents that happened in the last few days.

It was as a reasonably fine day I was cruising along, windows open music playing enjoying a relaxed drive for a change when this happened.
Watch the pickup overtaking the bus on the far right.

I saw him coming and eased over to the right to make room thinking he would tuck in behind the black pickup. Which he did but then changed his mind, unfortunately by that time another car was along side me and I couldn't move over anymore. Luckily the the ABS worked.

This I put down to the poor layout of Thai roads. There should not have been an exit gap so close to the on-ramp slip road. If the gap is there people are going to use it.

Did I mention I had fitted an extra pair of horns to my car. I try not to blast the horns too often but when I do people do notice. You can just hear the feeble tweet from the horns of the car along side me.

This one speaks for it's self.

In the first instance perhaps you should have slowed a bit more in anticipation that the truck would be held up and probably the same in the second incident !

In the third instance impressed that you couldn't make a right turn without stopping and reversing back biggrin.png

the second clip clearly shows the honda indicating well before you reached the black/white kerbing, but yes a poor road layout

Sorry, in the first one you had more than enough time to safely change lanes, or brake safely. seems to me that you were indecisive about slowing down or making the lane change, or were not paying attention to what was happening in front of you, or not knowing what was in the lane to your right that would have allowed you to decide earlier what to do.

As for the second one. That was just aggressive driving. The dude in the car had his indicator on a full 5 seconds before you blasted him and well before you entered the stream of traffic. It was your responsibility to merge safely, but you were trying to underpass the utility on your right when he was also clearly indicating to exit left.

I call both of these a big FAIL on your part. Both could have been avoided easily if you were driving less aggressively.

Sure the road design wasn't great, but I'm assuming you knew the road layout and should have been driving to the conditions.

If you've found yourself in so many similar situations in the past that you feel you need louder horns, it speaks volumes. facepalm.gif

Maybe if you hadn't been so relaxed, listening to music and had paid more attention to your speed and what was going on around you at the time you wouldn't have got yourself into those situations.

Congratulations on not being able to turn right safely. If you hadn't had to stop and reverse back into the traffic perhaps that motorbike wouldn't have tried to pass you as the rider almost certainly didn't possess the ESP it would have needed for him to know what you were doing there in the middle of the road.

It seems that your ability to count was affected by the near-misses you were party to, there were 3, not 2.

Hmmm!

In the first clip the pickup going faster than me overtakes the bus on the outside lane cuts across 4 traffic lanes and comes to a dead stop right in front of me, and I'm the one going too fast and not paying attention.

In the second clip the road layout was bad, my lane had priority and I was signalling my intention and still I am at fault.

Practically every post on here about driving is a rant about local driving habits, I don't recall ever reading a post praising any local driver or motorcyclist. yet in the in the clips I am the one at fault.

Interesting!

"alfieconn" Yes I could have easily made the right turn but I was in an unfamiliar area full of narrow lanes and did not want to get stuck down a dead end so went slightly past the turn to have a look first.

Could have backed up a little and do the turn in one go but then you wouldn't have had a reason to post. whistling.gif

Incidentally when I started the right turn maneuver the road was clear in both directions. The motorbike came later and as usual with this guys could not wait that extra couple of moments till I had compleated the turn.

As I said Just for fun.

"Gsxrn" Yes having a bigger horn can matter. So I'm told cheesy.gif

It's not a case of being "at fault". In the first two examples the other drivers involved did their bit in creating unnecessary and potentially dangerous situations that would not be tolerated in most countries.

Note that I said "potentially" dangerous. The situations did became dangerous because it appears you were unable (and with plenty of time) to take evasive action or avoidance action. In preference, you made both situations far worse than they needed to be.

Man, I drive 30klm to golf twice a week plus numerous other trips, and the situations you came across are just normal here - I probably take evasive action 20 times without problems just going to golf, it becomes second nature..

However I could fit some truck horns, go all territorial about my lane, and assume all Thai drivers are to blame for my poor driving habits.

Can't seem to post a YouTube clip. only links to the clip sad.png

What am I doing wrong? I've done it before sad.png

Not quite sure why, but your links contain a "feature=feature=player_detailpage".

Guess that is the problem, trying without:

You must be a very strong, tough guy and/or have a loaded/unlocked gun as you honk your horn that way.

Can cost your health or life.

My wife would die from a heart attack if I do so.

Seriously why you were cruising in that lane in the 1st clip. You should have be in the mid lane at least ,to drive smoothly.

My parents always told me: if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything.

But I'll just say this: Share the road sometimes, please.

And I'll say this: Conscientious drivers give the car in front, no matter the lane, priority.

Oops, sorry mom & dad.

I have to agree. In the first 2 videos the OP was slow to react and made life complicated for himself. In the 3rd video the bike should not have squeezed through. What it also shows on the 3rd video is the OP starting with the turn with the sidecar approaching from the opposite side. Much better to wait with the wheels straight for own safety, plus for re-assurance of opposing traffic. How are they to know the OP is going to stop?

Good quality dashcam, how is it at night?

Don't sweat the petty stuff Daffy. Whenever anyone posts video of stupid Thai driving on this forum, the Thai Visa Association of Advanced Armchair Drivers get all wet in the fork and point out all sorts of ifs, buts and maybes and ultimately end up calling the poster a prick. I posted one last year where a Chevy SUV coming the opposite way did a u-turn in front of 4 lanes of rush hour traffic, cut across 3 lanes forcing me all the way to the curb. the usual, "if you had..." nonsense ensued. Fugg'em.

Dig the big horns though. I have them on my Tonka toy and along with the 24" 80W LED lightbar at eye level for the nocturnal driving idiots, it makes for many memorable 'deer that just shit itself in the headlights' reactions from the dumb and the clueless.

As you say though, 'just for fun.'

Have to fess up and admit I did act a bit aggressively on those two occasions, sometimes the little devil on my shoulder just nudges me on. I was fully aware of the situations and there was never a chance of actual contact.

As "Gsxrn" says "In preference, you made both situations far worse than they needed to be" Guilty.post-4641-1156693976.gif

Most times I am quite tolerant with local drivers and have even been known to slow down for other vehicle to enter the traffic flow or cross over. Unfortunately these acts of courtesy are usually thwarted by motorcycles rushing by me on both sides. angry.gif

Anyway responses, except for "NanLaew" thumbsup.gif to my OP pretty much as predicted

Only surprised no one complained about my taste in music.

This is my pinned writeup in the Best of Thailand Videos. The help version is no longer accurate, you must use the Media tag. - How to Embed a YouTube Video - Updated

I corrected your first two videos but due to a limit of only two videos per post will put the 3rd one here.

I was feeling sorry for you Daffy D after some of the comments from the first 2 videos but have just watched the 3rd video.

You mentioned that you were travelling in an unfamiliar area. Did you think the road was one way or was it by looking down the narrow lanes that you were driving on the other side of the road at the beginning of the clip?

Lucky there could have been an Almost Accident before the Squezzy Motorbike.
