Tech question. Desktop, buzzing on headset/speakers

My desktop computer has a buzzing noise on the headset/speakers. I took it to the shop and they suggested changing the power supply.. I did, seemed slightly better.. My understanding is that it could be line noise. So would a line active UPS solve the buzzing noise? If not any suggestions!

The buzzing is most likely coming from the low quality onboard sound on your motherboard. Your best bet would be to buy a USB adapter like the one above or a dedicated PCI soundcard to put in the desktop.

A lot of the newer 'gaming' oriented motherboards have their audio on separate PCB layers to avoid the system buzz.

Probably 50Hz noise from a floating ground and/or unmatched line/mic input.

I get 'buzz/hum' off my earphones if I'm barefoot on tile.

Isolated the ground issue by putting a carpet under me and the desk..

Had a friend who complained about a similar buzz/noise issue on his office PC.

Carpeted room, so the issue was just noisy AC. Solved the issue by adding a UPS, where the 220v - 12v - 220v conversion/filter cleared up the AC noise issues. But because of the way his office desk sat the UPS had to sit under his desk and for some odd, I'm sure Freudian, reason he kept unconsciously flicking the on/off switch with his toes. Luckily a low tech solution of taping a piece of cardboard over the switch prevented us having to amputate his toe.
