PHUKET: -- Police arrested two suspects yesterday wanted for attacking a female Finnish tourist and stealing her handbag on Saturday.

Nat Roongrojchanakorn, 18, and Thanathip Siriwat, 19, confessed to the snatching as well as the assault on Mari Inkeri Ruohonen, noting that they were high on a kratom-based drink at the time.

Ms Ruohonen was attacked and seriously wounded when she resisted the bag snatching attempt from the two men (story here).

“Our investigators found Mr Nat riding a motorbike that matched the one used in the incident at the Land and House complex in Chalong. After we searched his home and found clothes matching those worn during the attack, we brought him to the station for questioning,” said Karon Police Superintendent Sompong Boonrat.

Don't blame your stupidity on a plant. Kratom used to be a pass time thing for older people, or a pick-me-up at work quite similar to coffee... It's not the leaf that is the problem, it's the combination of all weird stuff they add to the drink + the fact that they are young and stupid...

Don't blame your stupidity on a plant. Kratom used to be a pass time thing for older people, or a pick-me-up at work quite similar to coffee... It's not the leaf that is the problem, it's the combination of all weird stuff they add to the drink + the fact that they are young and stupid...

I blame the parents.

There's no discipline. If I'd shown my parents up like this there would have been hell to pay.

Kids these days don't give a toss. No doubt their parents do either.

It just perpetuates.

Good work by PoPo, as usual the crime is blamed on the daemon drink (and krantom). Now

we will have to see what the Judicial system has in store for the perps. A 500 baht fine

and a scolding just reinforces criminal behaviour. We will see what comes to pass.

You clearly have never seen a jail here and no clue about the inmates. Perps like this go away for years and years.

Two Phuket teens arrested for rob and assault of Finnish tourist

PHUKET: Two teenagers were arrested yesterday (Jan 12) for assaulting and robbing a Finnish tourist after one of them slashed her arm with a knife during a snatch and grab theft in Karon.

The theft happened last Saturday (Jan 9) as 31-year-old Ms Mari Inkeri Ruohonen was walking with her husband in front of Kataturk Restaurant in Soi Kloktanod in Karon.

Two teenagers approached them and attempted to snatch her bag. However, Ms Ruohonen fought back so one of the teens slashed

her wrist with a knife leaving her with a 25cm slash wound.

The thieves then ran off with her bag which contained cash and other valuable items.

Following the report of the incident, Karon Deputy Superintendent Lt Col Pachai Mutayan and his team investigated and checked CCTV footage from the area, and yesterday arrested an 18-year-old named only as Serm and 19-year-old Chai at properties in Land and House in Chalong and Phuket Villa 5 in Wichit respectively.

Police seized from the two one knife, camouflage shirt, two helmets and a Honda Scoopy.

I agree with heavy sentence but everyone did some mistake in life before. jail was not a place turn a bad person into good but always in other ways round .
