Never had an issue with fridge turning off after leaving room.. Int

newest Hotels have an special edition of refrigerators,

fridge is full packed, each location have an sensor ,

you lift a bottle , it senses and you charged already !

no place to put your own stuff !!

But thgere is a warning, dont take it out if you not buy it,

you will be charged anyway !

I have often cleared stuff out of my hotel room fridge to make room for my own things probably bought in a nearby 7-11.

I just put the things back when I am leaving, and no one has ever charged me for any of them.

as a man who likes to wear a decent shirt and who has stayed in many hotels in thailand i've never stayed in one with an iron...

Not criticising here, but in Thailand, surely you want to wear teeshirts or similar for comfort, unless you have a job that requires a certain dress code.

Some of us are fit enough not to sweat much, and like to retain a sense of style.

if I fit !! to seat all day in an AC controlled office,

I neither sweating !!

Also love it when they mark the cans of soda in the minibar so that even if you replace it before the maid comes, you get charged for it.

We had a female bogan in one of the hotels I ran who replaced the sticker onto a can of drink from the 7-11 after drinking the one in the room.

She looked rather surprised when we pointed out that the consumed drink was Coca Cola and her substitute was Pepsi which we didn't stock anywhere in the hotel!

She paid.

I believe Germany bans them in hotel rooms as a safety measure. A benefit for the hotel is that then you have to use their expensive ironing service

I believe........

Believers please go to church or temple...

You get the iron in German hotels. However not in the cheap ones...

There is however an expensive large Thai hotel in Nonthaburi, which specifically sells itself as a "Conventions" specialist hotel, which bans irons in the room. One would think that people attending "Conventions" would expect to be able to iron a shirt occasionally.

When I read the heading about unusual experience in a Thai hotel, I expected a story about how good English was spoken by all the staff; service was excellent - the guests' needs were paramount. Oh well.

the fridge going off when room electricity is cut is a common occurrence in virtually all countries I have visited in South East Asia. This is not a Thai specific thing

you are correct , however it is specific to cheapo roach coach dives . you get what you pay for . if you cannot afford a nicer place that is ok , just do not complain because they are stopping you from wasting their elect.

Actually not, because a fridge that has to restart every so many hours uses much more electric than one that runs continuously.

You have problems with hotels that you use all the time. Just a thought, why not change hotel ?

I've stayed in numerous hotels all over LOS & rarely encounter "all" power going off when key card is removed from slot. Fridge going off isn't usually a problem. Air conditioner, TV & lights will go off. I always carry a power board & plug it into the fridge power socket. This allows me to charge phone, camera battery, laptop & the like when I'm out of the room.

All pretty easy really.

"You have problems with hotels that you use all the time". Do I? Can you give me an example?

"I do motorcycle road trips and use hotels quite often.

One in Bangkok I use all the time, the refrigerators in all their rooms do not have a knob to turn it up if you want cold drinks, so I always carry

a pair of pliers and turn it up myself."

I thought this was the clue !

Sorry, you are spot on. It was my mistake, I thought you meant I was complaining about hotels all the time, not the same one, I am

going back to the Nana Hotel again because they now have free internet, even though it is double the price of the one where I use my pliers.

If I name the hotels I may have problems with Thai law, If anyone sends me a PM, I will name them.

In that case, just call reception and ask them to come and have someone empty the fridge.

I thought of that, but decided against it as if I really wanted to go back again to the hotel

in the future, they may not want me, and tell me they are full up.

I stayed in a hotel in khoesan Road, where a can of orange in the minibar was more than double the price of one in the 7-11 straight across the road.

A can of Fanta is about 12 baht in 7/11. So I guess they were selling it for 25 baht?

Hotels are not a charity. do you expect them to resell it for 13 baht?

(In my hotels, Fanta sells for 50 baht a can and no-one has ever complained about the mark-up)

It's 14 Bt in 7-11, and you sell it for 50 Bt?? I think that is pure greed, I certainly don't expect to pay 14 bt in a hotel

minibar, maybe about 25 bt, but then I am not a capitalist.

But you would pay 50 Baht for the very same can in a bar or coffeeshop, What's the difference?

No I would not, I would buy one in 7-11 then take it into the coffee shop, only I do not like coffee, it is not the price, it is the principle.

I pay 30bht for coffee (hot latte) or 35bht for a milky hot chocolate in a coffee shop.

Guess you guys all have more money than sense.

PS

The plastic bottles of pepsi/fanta/coke in the family marts and mom&pop stores are 12bht for 440ml.

I have no idea why you would pay 14bht for a 330ml can ...... that's 40% more expensive.

Now I know some of you will say, blar blar, only 4bht savings.

But I'm thinking if I pay 40% less than you for almost everything, then that's a HUGE saving.

Think ahead, double your spending money.

Now Cruncher is gonna come back with ...... but I like to sit in a nice coffee shop ....

So here is one place I go ..... free wifi too.

Yes, I suppose you are right, but these hotels are going to lose lots of custom because of this.

Especially the ones in hot countries.

I am not a drinker, but surely most people would want a cold beer after maybe walking around a bit.

To be fair to Hotels of which I have one. Its a massive problem for us that guests take there keys off and leave the card in so they can leave the air-conditioner on 24/7. there not made to do that kind of work and why should we pay for electricity when your out all day, the room takes 5 to 10 mins to cool down the aircon doesn't need to be on for 10 hours or more when the room is empty

It is possible to leave the fridge on 24/7 and let the AC stay off when the room is not in use.

I must have been in over 60 different hotels in the 13 years since the first time I was in Thailand, and

only three times have I came up against this.

As a biker (a pushbike as well as a motorbike) I am reasonably fit and slim, and do not sweat much, but I do believe that the biggest majority of westerners in Thailand

wear mainly teeshirts or similar, comfort is more important than style, this is going a bit off topic now isn't it?

Not sure what sweating has to do with fitness either

that pisses me off.

but in Thailand one is never more than 3 min from a 7/11 and I always drop a few items of my choice in the fridge. really not a big deal.

or I drink them and pay the 50 Baht.
