5 weeks for us when we did it earlier last year.

Processing times depend upon demand; the more applications submitted at a particular time the longer each application will take to reach a decision maker; the 'top of the pile' if you like.

Now is a quite time for visa applications in Bangkok, but demand starts to increase from around April as student applications come in .

The latest figures, for decisions made in November, show that 23% were made within 10 working days, 94% within 15 working days and 100% within 30 working days.

However, I have seen months when the times were much more than this; up to 3 months at times!

Remember that your fiance can submit the application early and ask that the visa be post dated for up to three months. In which case the visa will be valid from the requested date or the date of issue; whichever is the later.

Wow seems really quick. How long does it last before flights have to be booked as if it is too quick then I won't have enough money for flights etc. I ask this because with the tourist visa you have to travel within 30 days of it being issued.

Thanks

Actually, no you don't.

UK visit visas can be used to enter the UK at any time between the valid from date and the expiry date. Obviously the holder must leave the UK before it expires.

However, although a settlement visa is valid for 33 months for some obscure (probably money making!) reason the government have decreed that it must be used to enter for the first time within 30 days of it's valid from date.

If it isn't, then as PeeJay1959 says above, you will have to apply, and pay, for a new vignette.
