BANGKOK: -- Phuket has been named the richest province in Thailand, while the Northern province of Mae Hong Sorn has the highest poverty rate.

According to the data released by the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Board, Phuket tops the income category as it is the only province in Thailand without poverty.

A role model for the rest. Scam, fleece, bash, intimidate your way to the top.

Thailand should be so proud of the successful business model!

Do you have to spew your bile on everything about this country? The majority of Phuket province citizens are most likely normal honest people enjoying the benefits of living in a major tourist destination.

Wow, you must have forgotten what you have posted previously about the North East people.

Of course the majority of Thai people are decent, no doubt at all.

But what about the minority?

Problem is the majority is mostly a silent majority, while the antics of the minority are spread very noisily around, all over the world nowadays.

The authorities would be well advised to adjust very speedily to the changing world.

That is, if Thailand wants to remain a tourist destination of choice.

The (silent) majority deserves that.

So please do something about the minority making Thailand getting a bad name.

I totally agree with Halloween.. the VAST MAJORITY of Thai people, in Phuket and elsewhere and decent, honest and hardworking.

Absolutely agree. Unfortunately they still allow the OVERWHELMING MINORITY dictate to them.

While you debate the people that live on the island, let's look at the story here.

In this article richest does not mean wealth. It means the least amount of poverty. Shouldn't the headline read "Phuket named Thailand's lowest poverty province"?

Richest should be Bangkok. It's pretty easy to see that if you have been to both provinces.

As my live-in of 11 years and her extended family are from NP area, I would guess that you are delusional.
