'Plane wreckage' found in Thailand fuels talk of missing Malaysian jet

BANGKOK:-- A piece of suspected plane wreckage has been found off the coast of southern Thailand, a local official said on Saturday, prompting speculation it might belong to Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, which vanished nearly two years ago.

A large piece of curved metal washed ashore in Nakhon Si Thammarat province, where villagers reported it to the authorities to help identify it, Tanyapat Patthikongpan, head of Pak Phanang district, told Reuters.

"Villagers found the wreckage, measuring about 2 meters wide and 3 meters long (6.6 by 9.8 feet)," he said.

The find has fueled speculation in the Thai media that the debris could belong to MH370, which disappeared with 239 people on board during a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing in March 2014.

There has been no official confirmation that the wreckage belongs to a plane. And Patthikongpan added that "fishermen said it could have been under the sea for no more than a year, judging from barnacles on it."

Interesting, in light that immediately after the plane "disappeared" there were witnesses on gas rigs in the Gulf of Thailand that claimed to have witnessed a plane exploding and crashing at exactly the same time as contact was lost. This was way before the search shifted to the Indian ocean.

part of the wing was found in august last year on reunion island in the indian ocean. Nakhon si tammarat is in the guld of thailand, so very slim chance, that it;s from mh370

It would be helpful if they mentioned if it was made of aluminum or not. The arc in the metal may indicate it came from an engine cowling. A malfunctioning engine would not necessarily cause the crash to happen at that location.

IF this panel came from M370 would it be 'taken away' by Thai authorities & the whole issue hushed?..

...just in case this part did indeed come off the plane in Thai airspace, & (as usual) the authorities would not want any finger-pointing as to

Well looking at the pic, it has rivet holes all down the edge ,the same as an aircraft, had coffee yet?

That is similar to what I thought when reports of an explosion being witnessed came to light soon after it disappeared. An emergency change of course and maybe a catastrophic loss of cabin pressure that incapacitated the crew.

The Qantas A380 had a major engine explosion and still kept flying.

Anyway, I'm speculating, something I try not to do

I don't think the locals offered any opinion on what type of wreckage they found. They gave their opinion on how long it could have been in the water on their experience.
