I am posting this for a friend who is not very proficient in the English language.

Actually there are two questions, what would happen if your first time application (change from retirement to marriage ext) is under consideration

and your application is rejected?

I have looked for awhile but can not find an answer to this.

Second question, the reason he wants to switch to marriage extension is he believes he will be allowed to help his wife run her business and do small things just to give him something to do.I have heard rumors about this but can not find any further info.

It is not a bar or restaurant but it is in the public eye.

If he is allowed to help her what kind of things would he be allowed to do?Cleaning, doing small repairs ,talking to customers etc?

Type of extension will not help for working - a work permit is required for that and normally that requires an extension based on work. There might be a work permit issued to someone having an extension based on marriage but the work permit requirements would still have to be observed so it would not help for what is mentioned in your post.

If an extension application is rejected you would have to make other arrangements - obtain a visa entry allowed or apply for an extension that can be allowed.

If he now meets retirement and can continue he might want to do so as change will increase paperwork and police checking requirements.

Extensions are seldom denied. If there is a problem the normally contact the applicant before it is denied to sort things out. If it was denied he could reapply based upon retirement or a 60 day extension to visit his wife.. If not he would be given 7 days to leave the country.

There is not rule or regulation what would allow him to work in wife's business due to being on extension based upon marriage. Only a work permit allows a person to work.

Thank you for the responses,i will let him know and he will probably drop the idea of changing to marriage extension.
