Thai birth certificate and passport

Hi guys,

looking for some information, my son was born in the UK last September, his mother who is Thai, and myself are married and living in Scotland, UK.

I have inquired about getting his Thai birth certificate and passport in the UK and it seems ok apart from having to take him and us to London for an interview.

But I'm wondering if we could do it in Thailand? We are going there in February for 1 month.

Is there a time limit on applying for the birth certificate, I mean as he was born over 4 months ago, do we have only a certain amount of time to apply for a birth cert?

Hi. Yes, you can do the process in Bangkok. But only in Bangkok and it will take time. You will need to visit the Consular Department at the outskirts of Bangkok.

What they do is check your documents etc and send it to the embassy in London for processing there. Than it will be send back to BKK and you can pick it up (or they will send it to you by mail). So it is only an option if you are in Thailand for a longer period of time. I think 1 month is not enough, but maybe they can send it to the UK by mail or the embassy will send it directly to your UK address.

There is no time limit for the birt certificate, only whe the child is born in Thailand itself must the birth be registered within 2 weeks.

You could check for another option. The embassy sometimes has mobile passport offices at several locotions in the UK. You could ask when they have one in your area and if they also do birth certificates applications.

Thanks Preacher....I will contact the London embassy and ask if they have any mobile passport offices....failing that Bangkok might be an option...hopefully they will send the documents to our UK address.....

It's a bugger living so far north...not easy to access things like the embassy and probably any mobile offices will still be a days trip away.
