Inquests Shows Briton Died in Thailand after 'Downing Buckets of Vodka and Red Bull'

BANGKOK: -- A 20 year old British holidaymaker, Peter Nicholson, 29, died of alcohol poisoning after sharing four buckets of vodka and Red Bull during a 36-hour binge in Thailand, an inquest heard.

Engineer Peter Nicholson, had downed more than 20 bottles of lager, drank shots of Sambuca and Jack Daniels and cola during his first day of his trip to Thailand.

His consumption of the energy drink from the so-called ‘Thai buckets’ masked the effects of his alcohol intake – and he didn’t realise how he was drunk he was.

The father-of-one was found dead the following morning in his hotel room in Bangkok when friends failed to wake him up. Tests showed he was more than four times over legal drink-drive limit.

4x over the legal driving limit is not that much actually, typically 1 beer will put you over the limit

From around 7.30pm Mr Nicholson drank more than 20 bottles of strong lager and consumed shots of Sambuca.Mr Wilson returned early to his hotel but Mr Nicholson and two other friends stayed out and shared the buckets of vodka and Red Bull before returning at 1am.

Further tests showed he had 452mg of alcohol per 100ml of urine. Deaths from alcohol toxicity are expected at levels of 350 mg.

His local pub will miss him.

Probably not as much as his son will. But never mind, you got your cheap shot in.
His son is probably better of now than being brought up by an a father who has no control over alcohol.
Don't be stupid. If he was a seasoned alcoholic he wouldn't have died

20 pints (~0.57l/piece) for a binge starting at 16.00 would already give 820mg/100ml for a regular build adult male - so the maths is off already. 452mg/100ml is not deadly by a long haul.

EDIT: I can waste a 0.75l bottle of vodka, with a case (12x500ml) of beer during a night - and I weigh around 72kg - with every calculation I'd need to be in a morgue at least a couple of times per year.

Methanol comes to mind whenever you get a fatality out of drinks bah.gif

Knockoff alcohol is rampant here. Just because it says Jack Daniels on the bottle doesn't mean it's real JD. Especially at the cheaper bars. It's typically jungle juice. Very dangerous.

bet your mum is so proud of you,

its 20 bottles, not pints and that 29 must be a guess as he was drinking in bars, not at home.

Believe I could make a fortune providing consult services on the "do's and don't's" of visiting Thailand to young men. Plenty of referential to convince those with I.Q.'s over 100 that the service would be a nominal cost when compared to the alternative. Too many get here and just 'don't get it'. They fall into the pit and before they know it, they're in too deep.

These news events sadden me. And we've all seen or heard about them too many times to count.

There's an ironic photo at the link.

Also the drinking began before he got on the plane and didn't stop.

And some airlines continue to enable that level of excess by not vetting consumption ( it's far easier to get booze on many than it is to get water).Sad way for a young life to end.

Other reports state a blood alcohol level of 341 when he was found. This usually carries only a small risk of death. It's much more likely that there are other, underlying physical causes .
