Good news. And it proofs that I am not alone in Khon Kaen.

Casino cafe completely out of stock until last week (last time checked).

not much good to say about Tesco, apart from one thing; They had a few jars of Duo Penotti on the shelves last week! I think only Dutch people might know this white-choco hazelnut spread. But damn it's yummi. Too bad a small jar is 259 Baht.

Yes we pay dearly for our Farang food sad.png ... Marmite 289 baht for the medium sized Jar...rolleyes.gif

I took a picture of the same notice but was beaten to the post. I would say that Casino stocks were looking very low though when I was in Big C last week. Tesco does have some 'finest' products on sale which I would recommend but Big C seems to have a bigger range of food of interest for farangs of various origins.

Fully stocked with Casino products now

Don't know where you are, but here in Pattaya not much has changed regarding Casino products, other than that there have been many price rises in the past week, and that overall assortment has got even poorer. But that the latter observation can be only my opinion.

I also noticed that the products that have reached expiry date, and which were normally offered at 50% discount, are from now on sold at 25% discount only.

The refrigerator where those items are stocked, and which would be emptied within the next 30 minutes after stocking, is now standing there overflowing with products and needs to be emptied by Big C staff as the products pass the expiry date without being sold.

I often looked at it for imported products, that are normally sold at 10 times the price they are in Europe, so you could at least buy a French cheese at affordable prices.

Now with a next day expiry date, and a price of 7 times the fresh product in Europe, most people seem to give it a miss.

Many regular items received a price increase of around 10% in the past week.

Looks as if Mr Chang consider himself not rich enough yet.

Mixed results yesterday in Khon Kaen.

Even more limited selection of cold cuts, just two preferred choices.

Successful with cheese (camembert) and pasta.

One last pack of preferred Brazil coffee (which was sold out for weeks, can't they order and stock properly a product that lasts for many months???).

All preferred Casino chocolate out of stock sad.png (the low mark for a chocolate junkie).

Not Casino: swiss chocolate has reached a new price peak (110 Baht for 100 gr) wink.png

I have given up on Big C extra, and by the number of customers in there today, compared with Tesco and Makro around the same time I think many have already. Prices seem to rise daily now, only quality doesn't improve equally. I think, apart from Villa of course, they must now be the most expensive supermarket in Thailand.

Bread toppings about 30% premium for the same over Foodland, and I take foodland quality any day over Big C.

Eggs No 0, 51 Baht at Makro while 59 at Big C, that's almost 20%

La Vache qui rit cheese spread, 115 at Makro while 144 at Big C, that's again about 30%, but in fact there are no items I regularly buy that aren't cheaper elsewhere.

Where I in the past few months already only bought chicken breast there, for the only reason that they barbecue it for free, I now don't see any reason anymore to visit. By the way, the chicken breast may be a little cheaper at Big C, but for some reason they are about 350 gram each, where elsewhere they are less than 200 gram which I think is normal.

I still wonder how they do that since their whole chickens are only twice the weight of a single breast.

This being the Samui and Islands forum, is where we are tongue.png

Yes, agree some prices have gone up lately, but the selection of items is far greater, although some items not to my suffocated taste gigglem.gif

But Big C Samui, for now at least is busier than it was before.... time will tell if it stays that way! ... Staff seem to be more on the ball, rather than their phones playing games! whistling.gif

Big thumbs up for reminding.

Usually I check where "we are".

But this time I didn't notice!!!

(and just wondering why I saw it all, not in my usual filter, has it been moved?)

And the topic in no way is Samui specific.

Misplaced as can be tongue.png

OK, Pringles are gourmet now, guess I have to buy it and try...

I'm not a fan, they do have hand cooked crisps in Big C but not within my budget

Just see that this thread has come to life again.

No idea whether this will be nationwide trend, but my last visit at BigC in Khon Kaen was another disappointment regarding Casino products.

Close to nothing at cold cuts and soft cheese (camembert).

Silly price hikes for coffee and chocolate (30% and more).

As I wrote in other threads BigC becomes more and more worthless for me.

And it's not just Casino brand but also other products with price hikes of more than 10%.

More expensive than TOPS! What do they think?

I think that they can sell them any price, these products will still be better than any shiiitee imported from any other country.

Foodland is overpriced now !  I don't know if anybody noticed but so many products are sold 10 or 20 baht plus than bigger supermarkets !

The apparently very old and very successful French company selling their large share in Big C is, I guess, a sign of their lack of confidence in the short and medium term future of the Thai market as their strategy has been, in recent times, to invest in developing countries; I don't believe the 'reducing their debt' story.

I reckon they've seen the potential reach what they consider is its maximum and are selling to a buyer with a Thai monopoly type strategy but I bet they (Groupe Casino) know where they're going with the money.

I agree it's a shame if the Casino brand is fazed out in Thailand; a totally reliable and quality brand, unfortunately a bit rich for my blood but often enjoyed when marked down!

Thailand is a useless market, this is why Carrefour left to focus on China, and other groups might do the same.
