In the beginning…

all motorcycles were dirt bikes.

There were no paved roads.

Over the years roads became surfaced and bike design followed.

Trackers still raced on dirt courses, of course.

Then in the 60’s when road biking was getting popular,

some Japanese models were offered with up-pipes & knobbies,

and the ‘Scrambler’ emerged.

Motocross got popular concurrent with true design-built frames & suspension.

Add bigger tank & lights, let’s Enduro.

That’s fun.

Road racing mixed with dirt & jumps…SuperMoto/Motard.

Tone her down for the old guys.

Dual-Sport.

Twin cylinder & suitcases ==> Adventure.

Dunno where Trials fits in the evolution.

Nope, Scrambling emerged in UK back in 1920's.


Then in the 21st Century came the "Chinese Cross Dresser" for fun loving cheapskates.
