Price rises

Featured Replies

I've just bought some cereal from Foodland and was shocked to see the price had increased by 16B. Have heard of a few sudden price increases on thing like beer and tobacco. Seems like having breakfast will pinch now too. Anyone else noticed any price hikes?

Imported foodstuffs invariably carry an imported foods price.

Live rich die poor. That's our philosophy.

Troll Flaming post removed

HP sauce 143 Thb a bottle in Big C the other day,

prices are going up all the time ,for no apparent reason

price of fuel down,Sterling crashed again, you pay or

do without.

regards worgeordie P.S. the price of Cereals here are very expensive,80 THB for 170 grams, they must be paying 3/4 thb Kg for corn.

Any? biggrin.png

How many examples do you need?

Specially for misc kind of imported food (indeed for no apparent reason).

It's the same propaganda lie like in the Euro zone: "there is no inflation/price hike".

Tobacco: that is crystal clear. Tax hike. Many reports about that.

Local(!) beer: well there I did not notice any recent (one year) hikes.

Couple of weeks ago 6x chang soda water was 32 baht, went up to 42 then they dropped it back to 40 (big c) Brook baked beans were 50 baht, three weeks ago 55 in Tops last week 62, etc etc. Take out petrol and inflation seems quite high now.

You all must be mistaken or have bad eyesight and memory, because the government has stated many times enough that there is no inflation in Thailand and prices are declining, and who are we to refute those statements.

You all should be called in for some attitude adjustments.

well I did get a couple of bottles of Banrock Chardonnay from big C this week for 170 baht each, does that mean there is deflation? I think they got the wrong price on it, but for once too low smile.png

Im hopeful that my efforts now will mean that i never need to worry about what a can of beans costs....

Just stumbled upon a report about prices of vegetables and fruit.

Quite obvious that the severe drought of 2015 did not help to keep prices stable.

The recession is taking hold.

The VAT is just 7% here so they seem to give with one hand and take with another.

Two years ago , I could buy those big beautiful China GARLIC for 50 B/kg. Now can't find them below 100 B/kilo ( makro 109B/kg) . It was a steady rise , nothing seasonal. Transport cost went down with the dieselprices. I guess the garlic farmers lost all their money on the Shanghai stock market and now they want more for their product.

Shampoo looks cheaper....but now you only get 320-350 ml instead of 400 ml. Some Noodles are cheaper....but there's only 60 gr in a packet instead of the 80 gr before. And it goes on and on.

Stopped buying v8 cans recently bc the price went from 44 to 52 overnight.

Some price increases are possibly legitimate but some are due to greed. At least my hotel has backed off of its 12% increase after losing some long-stay guests. I read every week on Thai Visa about people coming to live in Thailand so businesses are not wrong about seeing a constantly growing customer base. Whether they will be wealthy enough to pay the increased prices remains to be seen.

Retailers are always putting prices up, as usual the Government is wrong.

Is the OP really whining about 16 baht?

He might find some sympathy on the Cheap Charlies thread over on Pub

Generally speaking, anyone who buys everyday, bog standard stuff from TOPS needs their head testing and can have little complaint about inflation. Products are often 10%/20% higher.

Not the best example but I paid 130 Baht for a pack of Ryvita last week - a friend paid 37 Baht (admittedly on offer) from Big C.
